I think it was a bit harsh, Crichton basically pushed his nose into Flanagan’s mouth whilst his head was pinned to the ground wearing a mouthguard. He probably was being choked a bit and i reckon it was accidental.
The NRL has announced the a bumper class of 11 inductees into the NRL Hall of Fame, headlined by Maroons legends Cameron Smith and Johnathan Thurston.
In addition to Smith and Thurston, fellow Queensland greats Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk and Greg Inglis have been inducted as well as former Souths captain Sam Burgess, New Zealand and Tigers star Benji Marshall, indigenous trailblazer Lionel Morgan, a Kangaroos star of the 1970’s-1980’s in Les Boyd, NSW and Tigers legend Benny Elias and four-time premiership winner and the Broncos leading try-scorer Steve Renouf.
These 11 decorated names will join coaches Wayne Bennett and Jack Gibson, administrators Ken Arthurson and John Quayle, as well as broadcast legends Frank Hyde and David Morrow as this year’s inductees into the NRL Hall of Fame.
EDIT: Darryl “Big Marn” Brohman was not happy with Les Boyd’s Hall of Fame induction though.
Les Boyd…..9 Months suspension for breaking my Jaw in 1983. 12 Months for Eye gouging Billy Johnston……Gets inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame. Please!!!!
Looks like that’s the minor premiership done, and Penrith could be in a spot of bother with the injury to Cleary and Fisher-Harris on report for a late cheap shot on Jahrome Hughes.
Penrith released a statement on Friday confirming Cleary experienced a recurrence of the shoulder instability he had earlier in the year but that he would not require immediate surgery.
only three different teams (Roosters x4, Storm x5 and Panthers x3) have won the minor premiership since 2012
only five different coaches (Bellamy, Bennett, Hasler, Robinson and Cleary) led their team to top spot on the ladder since 2005 (note the wording as the Storm were stripped of their 2006-08 minor premierships due to salary cap breaches).
And they said the salary cap was designed (well, IMO anyway) to ensure every team has equal chance of winning a premiership at the start of the season.
Glad my team (Newcastle Knights) kept their slim finals hopes alive last night.
Have to ask what was the jersey the Rabbitohs were wearing last night? Might have been mentioned in commentary but i could hear it all that well cause i was watching at a club where patrons were quite loud
Definitely darker than usual, the only thing I can think of is that it was some kind of clash strip, since the Knights jerseys usually have a lot of red in it too.
Just two weeks before the NRL finals, supercoach Wayne Bennett has reignited calls for the league to scrap golden point, or at least change its competition points system.
Resigned to his pleas falling on deaf ears, Bennett says the NRL should consider introducing four competition points for victories and reward losing teams if golden point remains in place next season.
ARL Commission boss Peter V’landys is considering an overhaul of the NRL’s current competition-points system.
A winning team during the regulation 80 minutes could be awarded four competition points instead of two.
A victorious side in golden point would get three points, with the loser to be given one point as a reward for registering a draw at full-time. A draw after the additional 10 minutes of extra time would see teams awarded two points each.
Of calls for an NRL summit, Bennett said: “I think we need an end of the season discussion.
“The bunker was supposed to solve all our problems but the bunker has made everything worse. We have added so many new rules and interpretations. The fans are confused.
“We are confused.”
Bennett obviously doesn’t read News Ltd papers or watch NRL 360 on FOX as the exact same proposal (re points system for golden point games) were floated there in the last week or two.
Just have a draw after 80 minutes in the regular season, with each team tied gets 1 point each. In the Finals Series, then have extra time. Like what we did for over 100 years.
