Coverage on Sunrise
This year there is no morning live webcast via Facebook from inside the hospital either. In the past couple of years, hospital staff or volunteers hosted the webcast.
Kochie and Nat should of hosted Sunrise from the Appeal instead from normal Martin Place Studios

Similar graphics to last year but different colour palette.

Some coverage from the local 11:30 Am news

Replaced the orange with green it seems.
Very disappointing they are coming out of the NEP Studios once again. Surely one live broadcast from the Convention Centre where all the activity is will not break the budget.

Would it (also?) not be COVID related? Hospitals, nursing homes, etc still have strict requirements such as masks and maybe they either weren’t allowed or didn’t think it would work. Larry stood out this morning with everyone but him wearing a blue surgical mask in the background, I also notice 3AW’s set-up looks completely sealed-off. But yes, agree that atmosphere is seriously lacking.
Yeah it’s a shadow of its former self, there is no vibe.
Time for Nine to jump in and revive it back to the appeal it was. The fact is starts at 12pm is bad enough.
Also it was supposed to be Rebecca Maddern hosting I thought?

Could host at the convention centre… doesn’t need to be at the hospital due to covid

No, as the conversation centre isn’t a hospital.
What makes you think that’ll seriously change/improve things, how do we know Nine wouldn’t further butcher it? They can see the ratings and would have an idea of the financials, the current FTA landscape and interest in the Appeal vs even a decade ago. So unless suddenly it sparks up like the old days, I doubt other networks would throw more money or creativity at it.
Along with the midday start, this year won’t even run to midnight, scheduled to finish at 11:30pm unless it runs overtime.
Agree. I’m as nostalgic as the next person but the reality is, FTA today is all about cost cost cost and we need to accept that rather than yearning for times past.

Perth Telethon?
Yeah exactly. I think it’s pretty poor the network puts all of the funds into Perth where tbh they have a massive stronghold already. Where as Melbourne now gets the dregs.
Perth Telethon is a big extravaganza to what the old GFA was…
And let’s not forget, GFA raises more money each year compared to the Perth Telethon. So more expense being spent to raise less money…

I think the fact 3AW has been broadcasting live from the hospital since 8:30am shows 9 is way more invested in this than 7 even is.
9 could very easily add a visual element and incorporate it as part of the radio broadcast.
7 has taken it for granted for too many years and trashed it now with minimal broadcast time and not to mention the abomination of adding an AFL match smack bang in the middle of the telecast.

But do they want to is the question. With the way Seven has dumbed down the presentation in recent years it could’ve easily moved to Nine if they wanted it. The fact that they’re still not doing it might suggest they’re not interested.

I think you’re drawing a bit of a long bow just from that
