You might want to check that.
And there we go. Thanks for posting. It’s not just last year either, the Perth Telethon has been in front on an annual basis for about a decade.
That’s not to say that the GFA isn’t important but the annual Telethon bashing from some here isn’t warranted.
Sorry I do stand corrected. It was a unequal comparison considering the telethon runs for 26 hours where as the GFA runs half of that anyway.
I’m not bashing the telethon itself at all.
My point is that they have clearly stepped up the budget for Telethon and wound back the GFA broadcast budget.
And I do just want to point out again, telethon runs double if not longer than the length of the GFA
This comes up every year. I agree that Seven have treated the GFA poorly compared to Telethon. I don’t know why that is but I also don’t see it as a competition between them either.
I admit I am biased towards Telethon since I grew up in Perth and I understand its history with TVW and how special it is to WA. I’m glad they haven’t scaled it back and, as I mentioned in my previous posts in this topic, there is a good reason for that.
Again that isn’t to say that Telethon is more important than the GFA. Both raise money for an extremely good cause and it’s great that both events still take place.
I feel the GFA now is missing that energetic, natural, fun, witty, pro anchor and entertainer, someone who Seven used to have in their stables and use for many years… Can you guess who I’m referring? Hint: fall from grace. But yeah, they were fantastic on these sorts of events, especially with the little kids and parents.
I don’t believe anyone here is… it’s just a matter of Seven investing more into the Good Friday Appeal.
Mic and Bec should take it a bit more seriously. A bit of humour is fine
Really? I know of those two options which I’d rather watch.
The show is so flat. There is no vibe at all. It’s awful.
It also shows the shrinking of talent within the network too. All the drama shows used to have the cast come on.
Now it’s literally news , H&A and reality and that’s it…
Well I mean they are a lot better than Mitch etc
And with H&A based in Sydney there’s probably only a handful of cast making the trip to Melbourne.
But it was more livelier when they had the panels on, but they haven’t done those during the day for years. I always found it off that with the Melbourne Comedy Festival always on around Easter that there isn’t a lot of talent there invited or volunteering to appear.
I believe they had them last year during the evening.
I must have missed that. I guess they might do that tonight, then.
To be fair, the AFL game does help not only raise funds for but awareness of the Good Friday Appeal - particularly to a wider audience considering Fox Footy also does a good job promoting the appeal during their broadcast.
During an appearance at the end of the afternoon coverage, Larry Emdur highlighted that a comedy panel would feature tonight.
The Federal Govt donated $2,000,000 ($6m over 3 years) that matched last year. But otherwise the total seems to be well ahead of the 2022 total for the same time. Perhaps the timing of some of the larger donations.
Ahead of the AFL last year was just below $7m:
2022:
I wonder if we’ll see the famous desk come out for the evening session.
Looks like quite a few talent, including Sydney or non-Melbourne based, have made it down, Larry opened from his make-up room and showed all the stars in the green room (at NEP BTW) such as Kochie and Nat, some H&A including Lynne McGranger and Rob Mills.

Noticed no “Live” add-on to Seven’s watermark today, must be some automated issue with it being in the top-right for special events that utilise bottom of screen for supers
The performances on the entertainment front are few and far between. Kate Ceberano opened the show at 7pm and it’s 8.41 and we’ve been teased an Anthony Callea song but nothing yet.
