But that’s what we’re saying. ABC would have a clause in every contract stating that they retain the right to fire someone for comments they make on social media which discriminates on the basis of skin colour, gender, sexuality etc. ABC would’ve had some idea what they were getting into with Roseanne but knew they had that clause, and probably figured Roseanne would be smart enough to keep her mouth shut.
When Roseanne said what she said, ABC had every right to dump her. It wasn’t an easy decision, because Roseanne’s ratings were great, but it was one they had to take on the basis of the fact that not doing so would harm them and potentially lead to boycotts and protests. ABC-Disney do not fuck around.
Except for Sarah Gilbert expressing her opinion about a situation that directly affects her career and life in America.
It was Sarah who arranged this re-boot and her reputation was on the line with her opinion being public knowledge.
Her talk show could’ve been tarnished if she hadn’t spoken out.
You talk about the bigger picture… Racism against black Americans is a daily occurrence that is why Roseanne’s one tweet has become a massive outrage.
A source close to the disgraced comic — who says she is “hunkered down” with her parents in Utah — tells us, “Roseanne feels so bad about her antics she is trying to figure out a way to help people harmed by the cancellation.
“She’s considering giving up financial and creative participation in a spin-off so the people she loves can have jobs. Barr holding on is a stumbling block.”
If it’s true that she’s thinking about this then that’s great for the crew and some of the cast members. I won’t watch any spin off, the show should jut be left as is to be honest.
That’s good at least they get a spin off. They could send her off to live with connors other son Jerry.
Reading the article it states that Roseanne still has the rights for future rights for the original show with the character , so killing Roseanne Connor off may not happen , but honestly would any of the cast really want to work with her again later on down the track? A pause for thought. I don’t know anyone who would be willing to work with a racist.
I won’t be watching the spin off 10 seasons is enough.
I wish the cast and crew the best with it.
I thought the show would fall flat on it’s face without Roseanne involved but there are a few good laughs to be had in the premiere episode of The Conners.
I watched it , and it was really good. They handled roseanne’s death very well. and the humor was still there. I was one who said i would boycott it, but I will tune in to see the rest of the season. Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman will hold the show up well, stil on the fence about Sara Gilbert and Lucy Gorenson, they are not really strong actors and have never been in Roseanne, nor the revival, don’t think they will be that particular impacting on the audience. Hopefully Becky and DJ will have a bit more story lines this season.
Agree. If that standard of writing can be kept up the show has a good chance of surviving.
I was going to say something similar regarding the actors. John Goodman and Laurie Metcalfe are more than capable of carrying the show. Roseanne was only ever a passable actress in my eyes but her humour always drove the show. I enjoyed Gilbert’s character much more in the original series but perhaps we’ll grow to love her in the role of lead snark now that she is filling the void left by Roseanne.
