Regional Radio Ratings

Not true- this station barely even registers on the private figures, not sure where you got this from?

It was mentioned in Media Spy at launch that Star 92.1 was receiveable in the Shepp area. Apart from Triple M and Hit the only other radio stations receiveable in Shepp are all the ABC stations, community radio station 3ONE FM, SEN (on 3SR’s old AM frequency) and Bendigo’s Triple M and Hit (content is identical apart from local breakfast/commercials/news).

Today, we’re off to Central QLD:
https://radiotoday.com.au/sca-stations-rule-in-central-queensland-xtra-insights-survey-1/

Triple M took the top spot with 29% (+8.2 from 2022), followed by Hit with 28.4% (-4.9). 4CC rated 8.7% (+1.9), followed by ABC Capricornia with 8.1% (-1.0), JJJ with 5.7% (-2.9) and 4RO with 4.3% (Steady).

In the demos, Hit tops the under-40s, with Triple M dominant in the 40-64s, and 4RO topping the 65+, just 0.3 ahead of Triple M.

In breakfast, Hit’s Bronte & Lakey topped the slot with 28.3% (-5.9), followed closely by Triple M’s Pinky & Macca with 27.6% (+8.3), ABC Capricornia’s Jeremy Jones with 8.9% (-1.1), and 4CC’s Hammo with 8.6% (+1.8). In drive, Hit’s Carrie & Tommy won with 28.8% (-7.2), just ahead of Triple M’s Rush Hour, which rated 28% (+6.2). Jonesy & Amanda on 4CC rated 7.3% (+0.9), levelled with Adam Stephen on ABC Capricornia (+2.2).

The “Other Stations” share this survey is at 10.9%, down 0.5 from 2022.

4CC hanging in there, despite not having the best signal in Rockhampton. Beats me why ARN haven’t even expressed interest in converting 4RO & 4CC. Are they asleep?

They tried “converting” 4CC some years ago but were only given a low powered relay out at Yeppoon, which never went to air.

And 4RO’s Gladstone AM frequency allocation of 1125 never made it to air either.

Yes I remembered that. From memory 4CC (Zinc) was running a rock format at the time.

They have that option now, to convert both stations to FM. Correct me if I am wrong.

If they both converted to FM, I guess they would one on the classic hit format and converted one to Star FM. I think they would give Hit and Triple M a good run for their money.

Have the regional hit stations twigged their format lately? I’ve noticed a drop in the ratings lately in a few places.

I could be wrong too, but for now I thought it was only solus markets with an AM license (and supplementary FM S.39 license) that could convert, but the others would be able to convert later on.

Thus why we’ve only seen markets like Goulburn, Bathurst, Nowra, Cooma, Hamilton, Karratha convert since they only have 1 commercial AM plus S.39 FM.

Yes I know but that was when 4CC wasn’t owned by ARN, but Grants IIRC. In the recent round of ACMA conversion proposals for competitive markets they didn’t even express interest in that process. It was really weird as stations all over the place expressed interested and some have progressed to “in market agreement”, whatever that actually means.

It beats me why the 4RO Gladstone repeater never went to air. Last time I was in Gladstone 990 was pretty strong during the day, but not the best at night.

ACMA have moved forward with expressions of interest for FM conversions in competitive markets, although none have actually progressed past “in market agreement” stage.

Competitive markets like Canberra and Toowoomba are at that stage. But ARN hasn’t even started the first stage with stations like 4CA, 4MK, 4RO/4CC. It’s baffling.

Latest status from ACMA

Yep, very baffling. It would be a no brainer to future proof these radio stations in these larger regional markets.

ARN kinda forgetting they own a regional network is probably for the best, rather than what’s happened to SCA over the years.

It’s probably better to be listening to 4CA on AM, than a generic ‘Gold’ on FM.

Yes, definitely been playing second fiddle to the metro stations.

Though I’m glad they’ve not really changed the regional stations.

Shooosh…don’t remind them.

Agree, I still have fond memories of your 2NM and can vaguely recall them moving from 1458 to 981 in the early 1980s and I’m glad that they’re still using that callsign today.

Let’s not give too much credit. The ARN regional playlist is rubbish. Thankfully River94.9 still runs alone.

I think the one they use for the AM / heritage FMs isn’t bad.

Much better than the Gold metro one and any Triple M log.
