Regional Radio Ratings

And it’s really the breakfast team’s result that drives it. A world of difference to Pricey, so very little lost in overlap.

Cliffo has been a mainstay and Gabi would have become more known to the market in her second year.

Good result for the Camerons’, more overall increase for both.

All the regional surveys are strange, the phone recall is far from reliable.

I have a theory that Townsville folk are a bit more sticky with their legacy stations than most regional cities…

Love or loathe him, much of that influence can be attributed to Pricey who has developed that loyalty over his time there.

I agree. But even with Hit I think people just stick on 103 because it was the original FM.

It’s probably the Ayr factor.

I don’t think Pricey will be going anywhere for a long time yet.He still rates number 1 even though he’s the sole breakfast presenter. Its about 27 years since he’s been doing the breakfast show ,yes I still think of this station as 4TO FM😕

Albury radio ratings are out. http://www.radioalive.com.au/RA/media/General/Documents/Surveys%20for%20Regional/ALBURY-XTRA-INSIGHTS-PUBLIC-SURVEY-RESULT_1.pdf?ext=.pdf

Hit 104.9 is No 1 overall with a solid 4% increase to 25.7, swapping positions with SCA stablemate 105.7 Triple M who also had an increase of 2%.

AM station 2AY, had a slight decrease from 11.4 to 10.7. Triple J also dipped slightly by 0.3 from 9.2 to 8.9. ABC Goulburn-Murray had the biggest drop of this survey from 14.4 to 13.2

In breakfast, Hit is no1 with 25.9 followed by Triple M with 23.1. Increases of 4.5 and 2.0 respectively.

Hit is No#1 under 40’s, Triple M dominates the 40-54’s, while the battle for 55-64 is a 3 way race between Triple M, 2AY and ABC.

Over 65’s is hotly contested and dominated by ABC Goulburn Murray and 2AY taking the top two positions with audiences of 30.6 and 28.8.

Triple M is actually way ahead of ABC & 2AY in that demo by 9% & 9.8% respectively.

The “Other Stations” account for 13.8% of listeners surveyed, down from 15.5% two years ago. This may partially be due to the fact that 3NE is now owned by the same company that owns 2AY, even though the latter’s share fell.

Has there been more duplication of programming since the acquisition?

Outside of Neil Mitchell & any programming from 6pm onwards, no.

This is odd…

Triple M is 20%+ plus for 10-17s and 25-39s, but only 11% in 18-24s.

This is recall research and all the weaknesses that go with it.

The first market to have its radio ratings released by Xtra for 2020 is Mt Isa: http://www.radioalive.com.au/RA/media/General/Radio%20Alive%20Conference/MOUNT-ISA-XTRA-INSIGHTS-PUBLIC-SURVEY-RESULT.pdf?ext=.pdf

Hit 102.5 is #1 with a 52.9% share, up 5.7% from 2017. This was followed by 4LM at a very distant 2nd with 11.3% (down 2.6%), JJJ with 10% (down 0.7%) & ABC North West QLD with 8.2% (down 5.6%).

On a sidenote, according to this post, the Wheatbelt & Esperance were scheduled to be released last month, but was probably cancelled. They did get the Mt Isa release date right though, as you can tell above.

However, with the Coronavirus happening, and considering what’s happening with future GfK surveys because of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if further Xtra surveys scheduled for this year will either be cancelled or postponed.

oh dear. i think ballarat was going to be due in may

Me either. Stations can pick up the general feel from tracking if numbers have taken a dive and will put the surveys on hold.

The regional surveys via Xtra are all phone polls, based on recall, no paper diaries or face to face visits, however knowing those who commission the research, any excuse will do.

Yes and Radio Ballarat has just made their programmer, Garrath Cockerell redundant. Probably got all the year’s planning out of him by April, bad situation.

Huge result for Hit 102.5. Could this be a trend for some markets still conducting surveys? People might choose to switch to CHR formats for music and light entertainment away from Covid19 coverage.

52.9%!!

Thats the biggest overall share I’ve ever seen for a station in a regional survey.

Yes it’s huge. I guess Mt Isa is very isolated with no overspill at all, but even so a bad result for 4LM which has such heritage in that city and used to have a huge profile. Wonder what they’re doing wrong.

Since the last survey, Charters Towers has dropped the hit West Queensland stream so their breakfast show can focus 100% on Mount Isa. 4LM lost Jodie Sheppard from breakfast at the end of last year and haven’t yet found a replacement, so breakfast is being voice tracked from Longreach. Jodie was quite popular so her exit will have lost a few listeners, but having no dedicated breakfast announcer wouldn’t be helping. While hit’s breakfast announcer is based in Townsville, Mount Isa is a significant part of the job so they’re able to become familiar with the area and sound local.

The larger problem however (apart from being on AM) is that many years of owners who didn’t pay attention to the market and networked a hodge-podge of irrelevant content drove away many listeners who clearly haven’t been enticed back by Resonate.
