Carla Vella and the evolution of Sea and Mix FM on the Sunshine Coast

At the start of this year, Carla Vella was appointed Managing Director of Sea and Mix FM on the Queensland Sunshine Coast. Carla had moved herself and her young family north five years earlier, leaving a role as SCA Head of Radio Sales Sydney.

GM’s are hired for a reason. Knowing the junctures of stations that Quick has been present for; it doesn’t bode well for West Coast Radio.

Carla always got on well with Rhys Holleran so had to be the choice after acquiring the stations.

In my experience… Sales people make the worst GM’s
a good GM is somebody that has worked in most parts of the business and understands the rest.
Thats why in my Opinion, John Williams (former GM of Mix/Sea) was one of the best GM’s you could work for

Agree, and is also about being able to show leadership, develop staff, identify business opportunities etc. things you can’t necessarily demonstrate in a sales role.

No idea when this happened but Mix 92.7 has a streaming station on its app called Mix Light. It’s pretty good with easy listening hits.

I’m sure it’ll be just as ready as 2AY-2 is.

i remember that. 13 years ago?!? wow that time has flown!

Pretty close to what Heart is now.

Looks like the feed to Move FM and 2LT’s Katoomba translator has gone down with the storms. Both just open carriers at the moment.

Not surprised, happens A LOT.

Seems like there are three certainties in life… death, taxes and the 2LT/ Move feed going down when there are storms.

With the amount of storms (and other severe weather) the Blue Mountains gets, it behooves any station up there to be resilient. Nobody is listening to these stations apart from intrepid DXers…

I don’t think CADA gets impacted as much as the Lithgow based stations. Not sure on the community station up there. My local hhh FM gets its fair share of outages on FM.

99.5 is completely off-air now; getting ABC RN Coffs Harbour instead.

Up the Blue Mountains for work and 99.5 is still off air completely (static) 2LT on 101.1 is fine. Maybe the transmitter for 99.5 got damaged in the storm and off air until a replacement.

BTW does 102.9 2ST and 107.1 Highlands fm have many storm outages on the Gib?

I was wondering why I can’t find 4LM steaming from Mt Isa. Was a little curious and wanted to tune in but looks like its similar to BOG in regional areas and not streaming? The format of the best songs of all time and beyond sounds pretty good. Although it might just be an old slogan for WS tracks on repeat  .

I can’t even seem to find a website for them to check their program line up!

I was under the impression they took a lot of talkback from Sydney (2GB or 2SM).
