Regional Radio (non-SCA)

They could always go self help, other small towns like Cobar have.

But yes Flow FM is quite odd. One wonders why it isn’t more mainstream eg. 80s to Now or an AM style talk/classic hits hybrid.

They make the SRN ‘80s To Now’ default mix seem like the paragon of radio art by comparison (Hill FM runs that; only seems to be local at breakfast, shame). They do seem to run a locally automated ‘90s and 00s’ block starting at 0900 ACST.

Ceduna may have had a JJJ pirate on 90.0 but yeah, should have just gone self help. This was about a decade or more ago though- it was received via Es in Cooma. Streaky Bay went self help on 103.3.

Speaking of Triple J self help, I’m sure I recall seeing 91.7 listed for 2JJJ at Crookwell, but I’ve never heard it on air, have you?

Negatory Big Ben. I think I once heard a carrier on there but nothing for years. You’re correct in that it’s been on the ACMA books for years.

Another phantom station was Radio Safe Harbour in Ulladulla. I heard them testing once on 102.7 in about 2007 or 2008, then never heard again. Apparently they couldn’t get the requisite numbers together and just folded up.

I recall there being a Radio MUM (Milton Ulladulla Mollymook) … I think that was 102.7 too? Wonder if that is any relation, precursor etc?

Toddy revealed during yesterday’s show that the loss of two loved ones (including his brother Joshua) to suicide last year has left him unable to continue.

I wonder if they’ll still be replaced with a local drive duo? Or given the opposition, maybe just a more music shift?

MMM Fraser Coast has a blank carrier for a while while I was band surfing tonight - the backup tape kicked in before crashing back into the normal programming.

ARN Regional (formerly Grant Broadcasters) should rebrand Lake Macquarie FM 97.3 (Halekulani Bowling Club’s Community radio station) as 97.3 Power FM (Central Coast) & SRN’s 105.3 New FM Newcastle as 105.3 Power FM Newcastle.

Since 97.3 is a community radio station, ARN have no control or influence over that station (and nor should they).

ARN cannot outright acquire a community radio license and convert it into a commercial one, the ACMA would place 97.3 FM Lake Macquarie in breach of the license conditions, that being 97.3 FM is licensed as a community radio station and a commercial entity (ARN) has acquired it and tried to convert it into a commercial one.

Again, not happening. ARN don’t own New FM so they cannot do so.

Plus there’s also the local Hit and Triple M stations (owned by SCA) operating there so there’s enough commercial radio stations in the Hunter. Not to mention the SCA stations are winning. In the May 2025 ratings survey, Triple M came out on top in Newcastle.

And if ARN was ever looking at rebranding a regional hit music station, these days it would more likely get a rebrand to KIIS. It hasn’t happened yet, but it could. Currently they are KIIS Network-affiliated stations still carrying legacy radio station names.

That might conceivably happen in Trumpland but thankfully not here.

If you’re even a little bit of a DX nerd though, you have access to Power FM in the Hunter region via 98.1 Muswellbrook.

I get a feeling the user might be trying to troll the forum with comments like that

Or just stream it…

98.1 comes in fairly well in and around Newcastle.

SCA should buy and rebrand Tamworth commercial radio stations 92.9 FM as Hit92.9 Tamworth and TMFM 95.5 as Triple M anytime soon.

Why?
