Regional Affiliation Swap 2021

If it was that easy to get ACMA to issue commercial television licences then I’m sure News Corp would already have asked ACMA for one for Sky News, as they seem keen to expand it’s reach. But it’s not, and it would be a cabinet decision presumably whether any new commercial television licences are issued, and even then ACMA would hand the licences to whoever won the auction.

So only the TDT type additional stations to go then…

Noticed the WIN TV website is down, wonder if they are updating for the change?

like it was up a few minutes ago lol its going to be a big change i think they should create a whole new website

I don’t think they should bother anymore. Maybe make one for WIN Corp? Their viewers are all going to head to nine.com.au anyway.

Y’all thinking WIN are actually gonna update their website, it probably just crashed momentarily with the increase of traffic that it’s not used to from you lot checking for changes.

win wont think its worth it since win wont exist as a channel most states

WIN doesn’t update the website that often by the looks of it - Stephen Colbert has only just started hosting The Late Show, and Hildebrand & Kennerley are still hosting Studio 10.

I doubt they’d bother with a refreshed website. IIRC they didn’t really change the website when it went from Nine to Ten affiliation, kept the same template just replaced the Nine program guide/images with Ten’s. They just need to do the same in reverse this time., only difference this time is that the NNSW page will keep the Ten programs etc

Except nobody mentioned getting a commercial TV licence, a BSL isn’t what that is, the licence to broadcast a commercial TV service is a specific sub service under the BSL, radio have BSL’s too with a different sub service.
The BSL licence condition for the commercial TV networks states this:

This licence authorises the licensee to provide a Commercial Television Broadcasting service that uses the broadcasting services bands as a means of delivery within the licence area detailed above and is subject to the conditions set out in the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 and any additional conditions determined by the ACMA under Part 4 of the Broadcasting Services Act 1992.
Blockquote

The previous discussion was just about TXA being able to transmit anything on their apparatus licences/transmitters, as what’s possible, even though it’ll never happen, & as I stated, there’s nothing stopping TXA from broadcasting/transmitting Null Packets on their transmitters using their Apparatus licences, blocking anyone else from using that spectrum, who may or may not have a BSL for commercial TV or anything else.

That was the whole point, it doesn’t matter if you have a BSL for a Commercial TV Service, if you don’t own your own transmitters & hold your own Apparartus Licence, you’re not in control of your own destiny (service, content, transmission, whatever you want to call it), getting to your final planned destination, the viewer or listener.

I’ll let you in on something, when TEN got booted from TXA, they hurriedly installed transmitters at all the BAI sites (main metro & translators) & got an apparatus licence for the said transmitters at those sites (where they didn’t already have one), in case TXA (who fully own all the currently used TEN transmitters), turned them off, which they have the full right to do as owners of the transmitters & associated infrastructure, leaving TEN off air without any possible way to broadcast anything.

BAI could also do the same to the SCA TV & Radio networks, should they have a falling out, break contract or SCA stop paying their BAI bills under the maintenance contract etc.
Not likely to happen, but the possibility is there for it to happen.

Any reason why Tasmania isn’t being mentioned in the SCA deal?

This is the same company that still had promo photos in the foyer for the Drew Carey Show at STW-9 when Nine Entertainment took over in 2013.

SCA is affiliated with Seven in Tasmania. TDT (currently Nine Tasmania) is a WIN/SCA joint-venture.

The thing is though, 7 have already tried to buy out Prime and it was blocked.

SCA want to get out of TV, 7 and SCA already have a good relationship (from all accounts), and we know that 7 have already tried to buy into regional, so they are clearly interested, I think that there is a high chance that 7 will buy the SCA licences in 2 years time and leave Prime to take 10.

It would be a big “up yours” from 7 to the people that blocked the previous Prime takeover deal and makes a whole lot of sense to me.

It’s not a coincidence that SCA’s set this new deal to expire at the exact same time that Prime’s deal ends!

Seven would be very interested in SCA Tasmania, as it’s a big money maker and an AFL market. Gaining a licence in Darwin would also be a nice enticement for the Seven network.

A News And Current Affairs promo for Victoria just aired before on WIN.

Darwin is a Tiny market in which 9 dominates the ratings .

Northern NSW is the 4th largest market in the country - bigger than Adelaide and Perth.

I think that’s the appealing one
