Regional Affiliation Swap 2021

I wonder if the solution is a lower percentage, but having network advertising included in the feed, either per state or nationally.

National ratings are supposedly coming - it’d be helpful if the networks could directly sell national ads.

Also prevents supposed affiliate shenanigans as to dealing with revenue shares - just share the ad breaks not the revenue.

… doesn’t work in practice … advertisers want to pick where their ads are placed …

If you’re a national brand and want a channels demos I don’t see much of a problem.

Networks already do that with the mostly simulcast schedules between metro and regional. They sell both direct and national.

What about VAST Satellite as an option for regional television?

I have to admit, I doubt it will happen but I really hope every Regional Broadcaster loses out with this, I have always thought that it is stupid that we dont get the same channels as metro.

Anyone else here hoping we see the launch of 7, 9, 10 O&O Regional Stations in July?

They would have to buy out the regionals for that to occur, where it doesn’t already happen.

The networks have no interest buying assets (TV stations) declining in value. Seven showed interest with Prime7 - but Nine and 10 have shown zero interest. Seven has a mountain of debt, they are not in the streaming game and their Primetime is dead of arrival. I doubt buying prime7 stations hold much interest for them right now. They have far bigger things to worry about

Yeah fair point.

I just think its annoying that Metro get 10 Shake and 9Rush and we get nothing just because we are bush folk.

Then again if your lucky enough you can always set up a long distance tv setup… plenty of people do it in my town because we are only 100km from the Melbourne Transmitter.

No, it’s because the advertising markets are too small to support more channels.

Why not just watch via 10Play and 9Now on a connected TV?

O&O doesn’t guarantee you channels - NBN areas don’t carry 9Rush either.

Thats what i usually do…

I just think its ridiculous that we are expected to do that but you do make a fair point.

Thats rather surprising. Considering that NBN isn’t even called NBN anymore on air with the exception of NBN News, Its almost a duplicate of the Metro Network and yet it doesn’t carry 9Rush. Interesting.

The Australian is reporting Bruce Gordon is in discussions with Nine about a deal involving the sale of WIN Corporation, the radio stations and Crawfords included, to Nine Entertainment in return for a greater share holding in the company and a seat on the board. Such a deal would likely see Nine affiliation switch to WIN.

More than likely.

i wonder if then would win news stay or would it be just like now with 9 news local( which is state wide )??? or would it be 9 news western vic or central vic etc

…while one of the Northern NSW stations (most likely NRN) + C91.3 would probably have to be sold off for compliance reasons?

At this stage it’s far too early to say, but if WIN is sold to Nine you’d think the regional brand (for both news and overall programming) would likely be phased out over time.

I don’t think Nine Darwin carries it either. It took a while for 9Life to get there, too, IIRC.
