We always assumed that they had suggested something that could be seen as unpalatable, not sure anyone would have realistically thought it was this!
… pretty much a non-story, but given the predilection of 9 to use the SMH to push for things that are in its favour, one has to wonder about its reason for publishing something like this buried on a Sunday …
“buried”? It was obviously written for Monday’s paper.
… published March 21, 2021 — 5.18pm … “Monday” stories are not published until 12.01am …

Not necessarily under the “digital first” mentality many papers have
… sorry it’s taken me a while to reply … it’s taken me that long to climb up off the floor where I’ve been rolling about laughing at the idea that someone would think that anyone formerly known as “Fairfax journalists” would even know what “digital first” means

they might have had to be dragged into the 21st century by their feet, but digital-first publishing is something that both major publishers have done since the early 2010s
you’re hilarious
… it takes years of dedication …
have done since the early 2010s
that’s a good quote for this conversation.
interesting, the rumours re SCA not really bothered about chatting to TEN, they know they have no where else to go so have said “off the record” that they wont be chasing business as we prefer radio anyway. Could SCA really drop TV altogether what would happen. Lots of stories of merging all networks on a regional basis together and now SCA a possibility of not worrying about TV, i think they paid TEN around 30% last time in affiliation dollars. Maybe they will go lower and drive TEN down even more.

If Ten were smart they’d be talking to Seven, Prime and WIN about a possible future carriage on regional multichannels.
If SCA isn’t interested in TV and can’t find someone who’s prepared to give those stations a bit of love then they should hand back their broadcasting licences and open it up for regional community TV or other data uses.
WIN have production capability and a bad but existent catalogue of content - they could make at least a slightly viable threat of not affiliating with Ten.
SCA might want to get out of TV - but that’s a reason to sign a short term deal and let a future purchaser deal with a long term one - not mess around trying to fill a schedule on a TV station from scratch in a market that doesn’t have viable ‘independent’ television options.
Just going dark would tank their value overnight - there’s no point.
They now have the pleasure of negotiating with Ten, who have been enjoying increased affiliation fees from WIN of nearly 40%.
With their simulcast and newspaper news model, I have no doubt SCA will make the Ten affiliation profitable.
SCA would’ve been in the red this year if it wasn’t for JobKeeper. I highly doubt they’ll profit off television again.

Viewers in Cairns could be subject to Tasmania News at 6pm and independent branded content/infomercials/religious in the other hours. Yeah, might as well go dark.

In a nutshell no. SCA needs 10 more than 10 needs SCA
In a nutshell no. SCA needs 10 more than 10 needs SCA
That’s true.
I’m not sure why people are trying to suggest otherwise. Both parties need each other.
I’m sure 10 wouldn’t want their programs shown only in the 5 metros and the Northern Territory either.
10 needs the revenue but more important SCA needs programming to even make 1 cent of revenue
Exactly. SCA going “independent” won’t happen either.
Who the fuck would advertise with them…
