Ratings: Nine Network First Half 2021 Audience Report

AUSTRALIA’S NO.1 BROADCASTER ACROSS ALL SCREENS

Nine continues to achieve the greatest share of total television viewers across all screens and all devices.

At the mid-point of the 2021 calendar year, the 9Network is once again leading the year with all key demographics and Total People, with a significant lead of 4.5 share points over its nearest competitor in the highly prized 25-54 demographic.

After 26 calendar weeks, Nine’s primary channel also ranks No.1 in 2021 with all key demographics and Total People.

And in the BVOD space, 9Now is Australia’s No.1 CFTA BVOD platform, with a 47.7% CFTA minutes share, equating to more than 6.1 billion minutes of content streamed in 2021 – 32% more than its nearest commercial competitor.

Key to the network’s continued success is a reliable schedule of premium, family- friendly content that delivers consistency of audience across all advertiser-preferred demographics.

8 of the top 20 entertainment shows of this year so far (total people) is Married at First Sight. What a way to milk the ratings. lol. That list should really be called “non-sporting list” rather than entertainment. The news and dating shows are not entertaining.

Nine would be happy with the sports numbers so far, thanks to the Australian Tennis Open and the State of Origin.

Interesting that they list Nine News on the current affairs table as one, instead of splitting into two like the overnight ratings (News; 6.30pm News)

I think Channel Nine would be very happy about the TV ratings so far this year. Despite lower numbers, the delayed AUstralian Open helped Nine win nights. Married at first sight and lego masters were down from last year, but still did well in the demos.
State of origin did very well back in its usual mid-year slot with record streaming numbers on 9now.

If the titles listed are anything to go by, I’m rather proud to say that I didn’t watch any of the most popular non-news/sport programs on Australian TV during the first 26 weeks of 2021!

I reckon a certain Sydney reporter’s contributions to Nine News can often be quite entertaining, but that’s about it really.

As for dating shows, it’s to my understanding that only two (the almost complete polar opposites that were MAFS and LOTS) had new seasons airing on Australian TV during the first six months of 2021. There’ll be a few more during the 2nd half of the year though!

That figure of 1.4m of whatever for Under Investigation seems very strange, considering how it went in metro overnights, where the hell are all the extra viewers (in the hundreds of thousands or half a million) coming from?

I do notice to reach that, they’ve used a metric called broadcast encores? Is that really how they’re/we’re judging shows now, by intentionally filling the network with encores for this very manipulative reason, in the hope some will rate really well (which in this case it seems to have worked).

Tennis and cricket both did better last summer than I remember, although I think they’re national numbers.

The only reason why they provided so much data is all of the datasets (funnily enough) show them being #1. You can bet your bottom dollar that they wouldn’t have done that if they were in 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th.

These audience ‘reports’ should be read with enormous grains of salt because they’ve been spun to an inch of their life
