Random TV History

I am aware of this AND its because Southern Cross didnt see the value in local news on the third placed network. Although the alternate outcome will never be known for sure, BUT a ten affiliate Local News would have been gone by now with networks struggling to cover costs.

However, Northern NSW is a completely different market given that the Nine affiliate has right through aired a 1 hour composite bulletin, which although at times I have speculated that it could become a cost cutting casualty, the composite edition of NBN News has no real signs of being replaced - although at times has been replaced by National Nine News due to “technical difficulties”.

Beginning of the end, every government since has just allowed this same story to lay out again and again across the country.

Move Closer To Your World (used in Australia by 10’s Eyewitness News) has now been released commercially on digital and vinyl for the first time

Ten in Sydney recently passed its 60th anniversary. I think the day passed without any fanfare or mention from Ten?

This is the special that Ten produced for its 30th anniversary, aired on 29 April 1995. So we are now as far away from that special as when that special was from the beginning.

This was a great special. I think it aired at 4pm on either a Saturday or Sunday. Very odd scheduling but a good special nonetheless.

Was there a Melbourne version from the year before for ATV?

it aired at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. Given some of the nudity featured, it would seem the special was more intended for a later timeslot! Not sure if this master copy was subject to some editing before going to air. It certainly would have exceeded the boundaries of the G-rating for Saturday afternoons.

Yes there was, presented by Mal Walden, that aired on 6 August 1994 (also buried on a Saturday afternoon, a scheduling decision that attracted some criticism in the press at the time).

LOVE the GMA ‘opening of the blinds’ animation for their intro at 31:18!

Looks like it’s a master tape version. No program return supers. I have the one recorded off the TV.

they were from last year when Ten’s station in Melbourne reached 60 years which essentially became a celebration for the network. But I was wondering if Ten did anything specific for its Sydney channel reaching 60 earlier this month? I thought it might have warranted a brief mention in the 5pm news or something.

Should be an opportunity to cut costs as they’d be eligible for a concession card now.

Surely since their over 60 they would be on a Seniors Card now

Yes that’s the one I meant (sorry).

They should be able to get their Ten regional stations a Low Income Concession Card too

A snapshot of the early 90s with GMA 2.0 leading into Bert’s The Morning Show

Was a very interesting format that came from the broom closet at the old Ulitmo studios. God Tim Bailey was insufferable then.

I vaguely remember Sandra sully having some role but may be wrong as I couldn’t see her in this video.

I thought Tim Bailey was and is terrific. It was the perfect role for him.

I think Sandra was involved sometime during GMA 2.0 with Mike and did a straighter news bulletin version with Ron. But I’m not too sure of the timelines. Here’s a retrospective that features bits of that period as well as a goodbye to the breakfast GMA before the brand was adopted by Bert:

If only they kept GMA post 1992. How things could have evolved differently for 10.

It was probably ahead in the breakfast news space than Seven was back then (again, I don’t remember the timelines and ratings of that year). But look at Seven now.

If GMA stayed on air… it would have made it very difficult for Seven to enter the breakfast market.
