No I think you’ll find that most people, any age have an appreciation of Fawlty Towers as the greatest TV comedy of all time.
but your comment was that people mentioned ONLY Fawlty Towers?
Yes. There are many other British comedies appreciated by Aussies.
He’s one of the rare Australians who would have an appreciation of British comedy. I remember meeting him at the Aotearoa pavilion at Expo 88 and he was very funny. Struck me as being someone who was quite self-deprecating. I was in good comedy company.
No. The average Australian has no appreciation for British comedy. Hence why the greatest British comedian of all time ended up committing suicide right here in Australia.
Australians often laude ‘Aussie humor’ which often means ‘taking the piss out of’ or ‘laying shit on’ other people.
Even Kath and Kim is an example of this.
Random TV history and the end of an icon:
Even Ricky Gervais credits him as his greatest inspiration. But understood by Aussies?
No.
From a fellow New Zealander, you really do talk some absolute nonsense about our Australian cousins.
Bro, you don’t have to live with them…
Are you capable of saying anything that isn’t a sweeping generalisation?
No one is forcing whingers to live here.
Australia is a great country, just a pity about the Australians.
Australia is a lucky country run mainly by second rate people who share its luck. It lives on other people’s ideas, and, although its ordinary people are adaptable, most of its leaders (in all fields) so lack curiosity about the events that surround them that they are often taken by surprise.
and that’s a no

Did Sydney or Brisbane ever have a version of this?
BTQ7 had “Love You Brisbane”, instead. The campaign was also adapted to “Love You, Perth” (TVW7) and “Love You, Darwin” (NTD8)
Tas TV did do “Hello, Tassie”
And much later as Love You Queensland - also BTQ and regionals.
I think you are generalising too much here. I think you are talking about the "I’m offended by everything " society.
