Definitely TVQ-0 Brisbane. There’s no denying it.

The special Retro - Ten Years Of SBS Television, broadcast on 24 October 1990, is now on YouTube. Includes footage and programs from the early test broadcasts…

Displaying a call sign in 1999. Is there a time when they stopped any form of call sign use in broadcasting? I guess digital TV would have changed things.

TEN-10 Sydney kept it up for a while.

NBN and WIN Southern NSW did it as well. In fact WIN Southern NSW is still doing it.

Looks like it is from the long identifier in 1989.

New channel from Nine :stuck_out_tongue:

I liked all of Nine’s promo packages from the late 80s to mid 90s.

IAHHM - Fifty-six episodes were broadcast across eight series on the BBC and TVNZ between 1974 and 1981.

IAHHM, which attracted up to seventeen million viewers in its heyday, has been slammed with accusations of racism, homophobia and a pro-colonialist attitude. One specific criticism has been the casting of a white actor, Michael Bates, as an Indian character, with darkening makeup that some have described as brownface.

But if you’re prepared to put up with all that, and have a bit of a laugh, all 56 episodes are available on YouTube.

Probably not the type of comedy for the average Australian. But great viewing for old Poms and Kiwis.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it aired in Australia mate

It was first shown on ABC TV.

Would help if you specified what IAHHM meant. I had to look at the link to find out it was It Ain’t Half Hot Mum.

Channel Seven in Adelaide had a flashback segment about switching from black and white to colour television.

This is how you revamp a time slot. Fresh new branding, but bring along the built-in audience.

It also aired on Seven at one point.
Apparently there were two episodes which the BBC wiped, but Seven kept their copies of said episodes, and in turn, a viewer taped said episodes, thus saving them from becoming lost media.

Not that Australians are in any way fans of British comedy but was 7 more partial to it than 9?

If I mention British comedy to Australians all I ever hear is Fawlty Towers. Was that on 7 as well?

yes a few times over the years. I believe the first time, t he actual episode was ad free, hosted by Mark Mitchell with ad breaks in the rest of the hour. I recall it being said John Cleese hated advertisements.

Ironically in more recent years, he appeared on a Specsavers ad with him hitting the red car with a tree branch, but it turns out to be a police vehicle with the ad ending with him running down the road
