Random TV History

Nine generally aired it with large black bars top and bottom on analogue at least for the time that I watched it which would have been the last two to three seasons.

This is what the opening of the first ep looked like on 9 Digital

Ahhh digital TV without watermarks. That didn’t last long for Nine, they started watermarking only a couple of months after DTV started I think?

When did they do that?

From memory, it was around December 2001.

I haven’t found the tape yet but here are some caps from when I did last see it:

So, it was aired letterboxed on analogue.

Everything else was normal 4:3

Wonderful Land by Mike Oldfield. Used in the ABC TV Closedowns back in 1987. Recently a clean version without voiceover or graphics was uploaded to the rage Facebook page.

Found an old clip of the Dorrigo Railway on a news story on 11-8 News presented by Chris Wordsworth circa early 1980s. Starts at 2.06 https://youtu.be/_axqZ3pwqJ8?feature=shared

What would happen to world cricket had Kery Packer been in a deadly car crash in 1975? The “old boys’ club” of the MCC and such never face Packer and WSC? Presumably the ABC continue to telecast cricket for a start?

Was he a bad driver?

He was really good at driving … a Hard Bargain… Like getting Nine back off Bond for a lot less than what he sold it for.

It was just a “what-if”? question like posted at alternatehistory.com for imaging how things would be different if WSC had not happened…

A rare and very basic Capital 7 ID at the start of this video dating back to 1981.
