A strange round-up of movies airing on GO!, posted on their website in October 2010. (Source)

You demanded it, and we listened. You want more movies on GO! and we have certainly delivered. This weekend make some popcorn, take the phone off the hook and settle down to watch some great classic and recent movies on GO!
The weekend’s movie feast starts tonight with heist comedy Kangaroo Jack at 7.30pm followed by The Little Shop of Horrors at 9.30pm. The Little Shop of Horrors is a classic black-comedy musical that has to be seen just for the sheer hilarity and absurdity of the songs alone. You won’t quickly forget the image of Seymour bursting out into song as he feeds his plant human flesh!
Saturday steps it up a notch with big budget blockbusters that will blow you away. At 6.30pm Superman Returns tells the story of what happens when the man of steel returns to earth after a self-imposed exile of a number of years. How has the world changed and how will he fit back into it? Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey perfectly encapsulate the roles of Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor respectively.
Following that at 9.45pm is the awesome Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Arnie’s back … again, this time to look after the grown-up John Conner. Fans of the franchise won’t want to miss this as the events predicted in the first two films all those years ago finally come to pass.
And finally on Sunday, relax and enjoy the last night of the weekend with sci-fi film Mars Attacks! at 9.30pm. The humour is dark and the cast is all-star with more famous faces filling every scene than just about any film we can think of. Jack Nicholson heads the list as president of the United States with Glenn Close as his wife. The cast is rounded out by Pierce Brosnan, Annette Bening, Jack Black, Martin Short, Danny DeVito, Michael J Fox, Sarah Jessica Parker and Tom Jones. Phew. That’s quite a list.
So be sure to settle into a weekend of pure entertainment on GO!, the place for movies.

As with radio and the loss of “standards” and “oldies”, anything considered too old for advertisers isn’t aired.

The Generation X cohort is now following its parents and grandparents out of the “coveted demo”.

Why does this happen?

Being an empty nester = buying less stuff, with age comes a resistance to changing brands on the basis on just an ad and older people are more willing to research the best deal.

Wasn’t that the name of the Roger Corman original from 1960?

Yes. There is no ‘The’ in the title of the 1986 film.

The two NCC ads with the “…dinosaur, Daddy!” kid - the original from 2005 and the sequel ad made later in 2007 – after the first advert had become popular – with the kid now older and about 12-13.

If you are wondering about my username – “murraygreen” – i chose it because of “the Murray’s green banks” from And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda.

Never seen timeshares advertised on TV before. Absolute scam product.

the ads were everywhere on Melbourne TV in the early 1980s. Those and those forever-annoying Saba furniture store ads. Channel 10 sold buckets of airtime to bloody Saba!

I always remember the National Tiles ads whenever I was in Melbourne with the very distinctive voice on the ads. They opened in Sydney now but never used to be in Sydney.

So how is a radio ad, TV history?

That is a radio ad sure but they also have TV ads as well.

they may do TV now, but historically i don’t think they did TV ads.

yes, hence my comment…

We got the Saba ads in regional Victoria as well!

Saba billboard spotted on the corner of Glen Eira Rd and Hotham St Ripponlea a few years ago.

Here’s an article about the man behind Saba who died in 2020. Apparently the chain closed during the ‘90s recession.

Have received a tape which has the entire 1985 pilot episode of ABC National Late Show, hosted by Mark Mitchell. (Mary Ann Fahey is also on the show, so too singer Greg Champion).

Don’t think this show ever made it to air did it?

As mentioned on Xwitter, I’d not heard of the show or aware that it ever made it to air, but it may have been an unsuccessful pilot before they settled on the sketch comedy show The Eleventh Hour at HSV7 in the same year, which also featured Mark Mitchell and Mary Anne Fahey and from which much of the cast went on to form The Comedy Company a few years later.
