Heat, by the sound of things. Guessing a whole bunch of people over-exerting themselves.

Seems a bit odd, though. The temperature peaked in the low-30s this afternoon, and where I was there was even a coolish breeze in the afternoon, and the temp is back down to the 20s this evening, so it’s not like we’ve had a 40+ heatwave or anything which is usually the sort of trigger for heat-related cases.

could also be from the fire from mt Cottrell as well. asthma-related maybe and causing people breathing problems

could be, but that’s a fairly localised issue. That alone shouldn’t be enough to buckle the whole system.

Ambulance Victoria declared last night a ā€˜Code Red’.

Danny Hill, secretary of the Victorian Ambulance Union, said the warm night – temperatures did not drop below 20 degrees in Melbourne’s CBD – coupled with eased COVID-19 restrictions and staff shortages had led to Monday night’s perfect storm.

ā€œSometimes hot nights are a little bit worse. People’s ailments normally keep them up late and if you can’t sleep, they reach crisis point and that’s when they dial triple zero,ā€ he said.

ā€œWhat has happened since COVID is that a lot of people have been either not getting into their GP or not taking the time to see their GP. They think, ā€˜I will just deal with it later.’ That can lead to having a situation where things get so bad they just call an ambulance.ā€

ā€œAnd since restrictions have eased, it’s been incredibly busy. Busier than it was before lockdown. The workload is getting to a point where [paramedics] are working overtime shifts, working late and not getting their meal breaks.ā€
There is nothing really special about last night beyond it was a bit warm. There are going to be more warm nights. It’s quite concerning that we don’t have enough paramedics on the road at the moment to be able to deal with that safely."

We’re not not supposed to use nicknames at my workplace, as kids are likely to use them in the wrong way. Mind you, I’ve been given some shitty nicknames and I’ve kept kids on detention for using them.

In what way? What have I called myself here at MS besides my username? :face_with_monocle:

Oh, I beg your pardon. I didn’t realise ElCapitanCranky was your real name. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m just saying that nicknames are a common thing in Australia and probably used more in this country than most of the world. For example, a lot of people here have said that their username is their nickname.

I have multiple nicknames, as a lot of you will realise. But ElCapitanCranky isn’t my real name, obviously. :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought people were going to start listing everything I’ve referred to myself as on this forum. You lot would have a friggin’ field day. :stuck_out_tongue:

@nickatnights what line of work are you in? Literally 100 people and no one has a nick name? Not even one person who just calls everyone by a random nick name?
