Likewise, keep your cold weather!
I was in Hervey Bay Wednesday, 93.1 Triple M was easily received but not 93.9 Hitz FM.
4BU boomed in like a local station.

I think Gold Coast and Brisbane residents would disagree on that one.
You wouldnât receive GC DAB in the car or on a portable radio, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and you probably wouldnât receive the Brisbane DAB signal unless you were near Caboolture or Burpengary.
You might have a few choices on FM, but that hardly makes it better than Brisbane or GC radio.
Likewise, I relish the crispness of a -5C morning even though itâs unpleasant for most. Makes you feel alive.
Itâs still very much summer here though with muggy mornings around 15 and warm days. Summer is lasting longer every year. Itâs bad here but worse in Sydney and further north.
Anyway sorry for derailing the random thread (thatâs quite an achievement). Iâll change tack by posting this excellent musing on good radio from the founder of Radio Paradise:
Yes Iâve always found 93.1 from Bundaberg travels better than Hitz 93.9. Surprised 4BU was strong into Hervey Bay though. I wonder if theyâve done anything to it recently? Back in the good old days of the 80s 4GY was like a local station into Maryborough and Hervey Bay on 558. A far cry from that now. Did you happen to notice how well Breeze and Rebel were received in the Bay? I find them excellent in the car.
Reception of 93.1 and 93.9 is usually at the same level into Brisbane here. But the last week MMM is coming in slightly stronger.
I had a bit of a listen this afternoon⌠itâs a very nice well done looking website, which gives you info on the band being played, very useful.
Music selection is what I would best describe at more alternative rock, with only a few well known songs in there⌠itâs good, but there werenât any âwowâ songs for me.
I heard on the ABC NRL Andrew Moore said they could not play simply the best as an intro due to rights issues. Just curious why? ABC would play royalties to play any song on radio?
Thereâs a difference between playing a song and using a song as an intro/promo/ad. These uses are generally negotiated with the label and artist and arenât covered under blanket music license arrangements.
I mostly listen when I want something different, and usually at night as the mix is a bit downbeat. A little too much indie folk for my liking; donât mind the alternative rock and world music. Itâs meant to be an alternative to commercial radio and it fills its niche well.
This morning, I saw a promo for GOLD 104.3 on the side of a bus which said âLESS DRAMA. MORE NIRVANAâ.
Drama? Never heard of them.
But a smarter move in not saying they play less of a still popular artist.
Do they really play much Nirvana? Feels like theyâre trying too hard.
Rarely do I hear Smells Like Teen Spirit on GOLD.
Would have thought some of the more âapproachableâ songs of theirs might get a burl though - Come As You Are and the live About a Girl would be two that would fit the âGoldâ brand a little better.
Just curious if 4CA at Gordonvale is still on air? Just looking at where the tower should be on Google Maps - it isnât there. ACMA still says it is in that location.
Likewise with the location for 4WK in Toowoomba? Whereâs it broadcast now?
One of the masts fell over in January 2017, as announced on the 4CA Facebook page.
I assume they decided it wasnât worthwhile to rebuild the site and offloaded the land (which was owned by 4CA). Google Earth shows that the site hut was removed between May and December 2022, but it looks like the towers might have gone before that.
4WKâs Toowoomba frequency was turned off in 2017 when they got the 95.5 translator. I believe there were issues with the state of the tower and being in a built up area so the ACMA granted them an FM licence to cover Toowoomba City. 95.5 broadcasts from Mount Kynoch.
You should see Quart Pot and Accommodation Creeks to name just two on the Granite Belt that flood and can remain flooded for extended periods (beyond the BoM 6hr flash flooding definition).
As with @Brianc68, to each their own, I tried.
On a winterâs day, 2022, soon after the multiplex began and many times since. With a small, handheld radio, as well as car, on the south facing ridges east of Maleny and on the elevated ridges north and south of Montville. Try it when you have a chance, nice drive.
4WK isnât at Mt Kynoch⌠the site is gone, not sure where they are now but pretty poor coverage last time I was in Toowoomba
