Ice Ice, Baby.

One of the more innovative callsigns was when 4IP changed to 4IO when it became radio 10.

I do like the old legacy DMG stations using the cities airport code as the call sign.

And some non-RG Capital stations - 2RG and 2RGF Griffith.

Radio in a movie set in the 80s with 2-band TV audio tuner. Radio was tuned to Z100 New York at the time.

As I recall some film & TV production companies will pay people to rent out their antique tech.

Apparently 1st Gen iPods from 2001 are worth a lot of money nowadays. Saw a few on eBay for upwards of $500.

I’ve got a smallish 1984 Toshiba ghettoblaster still in my cupboard… hmmm :money_mouth_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

I think you can owe it all to Wade Nixon for his YouTube channel “Dankpods” for the resurgence of iPods going for high prices online as his channel usually focuses on iPods, MP3 players and other weird pieces of technology that he usually nicknames as “Nuggets.”

Looking at Radio Station Merch this Xmas I note that Qld’s The Breeze has it’s own Qld selected & packaged ‘Coffee Blend Beans’. Nice.

Yes they’ve had that for quite a while and occasionally promote it on air :grinning:

There’s not many stations sell merch these days, staff get promotional stuff, & some give away promotional stuff, stickers, pens, t-shirts, etc. but not many actually sell them to the public, or if they do, you mostly have to know someone “in the know” as it’s not publicised.

Back at the end of '89 when I did a road trip to Adelaide & Melbourne with mum & dad, I bought a pile of SAFM & FoxFM merch from the shops (& not pop-up stores, actual dedicated station & music related merchandise shops) they had in the CBD’s.

FM104 had one in the Brisbane CBD too, I bought a T-shirt from there when up there for Expo 88.

I don’t recall seeing any similar stores in Sydney though.

The FM104 shop was great!

So I was listening to hit99.5 Mildura (via the Mildura South Webserver whilst testing it out) and they were playing Billie Ellish’s Birds Of A Feather. When it came to the but you’re so full of shit part in the lyrics, the word Shit was censored out using Artificial Intelligence.

Whether Hit used the technology themselves, or whether they just rushed to find someone’s uploaded clean version of the song online (most likely from a random YouTuber who uploads Clean versions of songs using AI), I don’t know.

Anyways, here’s the AI censoring the swear (captured via the LiSTNR feed of hit99.5 on delay): Vocaroo | Online voice recorder

Radio stations are often provided with “clean” versions of songs.

Not AI. Been going on for decades.

A lot of artists record a separate “radio edit”.

I know stations are provided with clean versions. I never heard the AI with the clean versions when I tuned to KIIS and Nova for example. But this is hit Regional Victoria here that I’m talking about. The audio attachment linked in my above post is an example of AI being used.

Remember when Hit Regional Victoria and hit100.9 Hobart used a TTS or AI voice to do the weather forecasts and LiSTNR ads? That was last year.

How do you know AI is used?

Speaking for Hit/MMM - there is a huge music library for the network that is used by ALL stations. Some songs are located in Gosford, some in Melbourne, Sydney etc. It’s all linked together in Zetta.

Just because it’s a regional Hit doesn’t mean it’s a different version to metro Hit etc. they use the same library and same song versions.

Have a closer listen to the bit where the word Shit was taken out, then you’ll know that AI was used to remove the swear. I know all too well about how AI works in terms of Voice Cloning and Vocal Removal from songs.
