The bit concerning Braidwood FM is basically an administrative error. The new licence area reflects our frequency change and power increase. The former 94.5 LA only covered Braidwood town and its immediate surrounds; the 88.9 LA covers the district and its hamlets (but notably not Bungendore or Captains Flat). 88.9 has zero signal in Captains Flat due to the proximity of high ranges to the east.
5 kW is very much overkill for RN Goulburn; 200 watts would have sufficed. The other Goulburn town ABCs are at 200 watts.
Maybe because no radio national on FM for the Illawarra district. Where there is 90.9 FM abc news , 97.3FM ABC local and 98.9 JJJ. i dont think RN from Nowra, Wollongong has good coverage in the northern districts of the Goulburn districts. Maybe RN from Canberra may cover the south adequately as similar to 666 Canberra
RN commands a small but influential audience; as someone posted here RN listeners run the country, while Triple M listeners donât care who runs it as long as they are well endowed.
846 and 576 provide adequate enough coverageâŚthough admittedly a lot of modern car radios are lousy on AM (mine included). One could feasibly have RN in good fidelity by using Sydney and Canberra DAB, with 97.9 plugging the void. I think this is what they are really trying to achieve.
I know I mentioned before, I never have been to Braidwood before for DXing anyway, may have passed through but I think have ABC at higher power from Goulburn will mean better ABC coverage in Braidwood? In theory Braidwood gets its ABC from Batemans Bay. I am not sure how great the reception is there.
Yes it sounds badâŚyou can hear (assumed) 4CC Biloela in the background at night. 88.5 Captains Flat is a little better as of course itâs a bit closer to Canberra as the crow flies.
They should really look at relaying ABC Canberra via set top box from Bungendore (Lake George). Youâd get coverage from Mt Gillamatong as you can see the wind farm from the summit. Captains Flat can simply relay off the local TV translator, which is fed off air from Bungendore apparently.
There is no chance of getting DAB on a hill around Braidwood? I think the issue using DAB could be no sport? I have a feeling the same issue could be using a set top box as well , thus they use 666. I wonder why not use ABC South Coast (103.5 FM), with a decent directional aerial it should get a good signal there.
Is ABC Grandstand (now ABC Sport) available via my digital TV?
ABC Grandstand is not available via your digital TV. Due to the complexity of TV sports rights, ABC Grandstand is not part of the TV line up. ABC Grandstand remains available via your radio or the ABC listen app.
Given we have radio national with no sport, I often thought why not just have sports on the ABC Local radio on DAB, then ABC Sport can used for supplementary sport when the main channel cannot. For example on Thursday the DAB channel can bring the Rugby League whilst 702 still has local programming. Then on the weekend when the main channel has sport they could bring the AFL on ABC Sports DAB in Sydney.
For those who donât like sport just tune into ABC Radio National. I suppose the ABC Local version on the set top box can just relay Radio National/New Radio during the time sports are on.
The only problem (and a big one at that) is that TV services from both the Bungendore & Braidwood translators are broadcast on the same frequencies. As a result, TV signals from the Bungendore translator would be wiped out by the more local signals out of Mt Gillamatong.
Thanks for this info. That would probably be the only alternative option for Braidwood then, given that TV is in SFN. Apparently people in Braidwood want a relay of ABC Canberra rather than ABC South East.
Have you ever thought of a random, an ear worm and they play it on the radio? I had sugar sugar by the Archies on the brain , and it was on 2ue a moment later. Its not a song often heard on radio these days, maybe in the 80s and earlier, it was especially overplayed on Jukebox Saturday night. Maybe its time to buy a lottery ticket?
I got gifted a Harmon Kardon - Citation Oasis DAB clock radio with DAB, Google Assistant, Bluetooth, Chromecast, AirPlay and NFC charging. Itâs an amazing sounding unit. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a clock radio upgrade.
