Truly random radio but where Iāve started working recently I can hear WSFM from one section and Smooth FM from another. Pretty similar playlists, sometimes can hear one song play on WSFM and hear it again on Smooth around an hour later. Managed to hear Billy Joel on both at the same time (Sheās Got a Way on WSFM/Uptown Girl on Smooth) last night.
Iāve been trialling streaming 2UE for the team Iām in as we arenāt close enough to hear the other stations well when weāre working. No complaints about that so far but I am worried a bit that 2UE might play too much older stuff. Tried 2CA Canberra since it has a good mix but too many ads and Coles Radio today (might be too safe?).
Any suggestions for a station that I could play for them that is 70s/80s/90s/00s and will have a bit of variety not just the same songs?
Depending on the time you work there are some good stations that fit from around Sydney. SWR comes to mind, Blacktown community station that has a 70s To Now format throughout the day, with specialty programs at night/weekends. Less ads, too. @TV-Expertās suggestions are a good go as well, 3GG/2GN/XLFM are 2CAās sister stations with a slightly more recent 70s/80s/90s playlist and (presumably) less ads, considering theyāre smaller markets.
Yeah doesnāt really allow for non-commercial. The Grantās Classic Hits stations are a good listen, and I think they dropped Sportsman recently too, meaning that some of them will have clean run of music that whole time.
As already mentioned Coast NZ is good, Wave Mandurah, even 4KQ, though I suspect that would be off the table if 2CA and 2UE arenāt what youāre looking for. If overseas is on the table, thereās plenty that could work from the UK. Smooth, Magic or even BBC R2 if you want an out there suggestion.

As for the replanning of the Perth FM band, the release of the consultation paper for it is TBA, based on consultation in Q1 2021 (which the period ends this Wednesday).
The document lists a number of NSW locations ripe for conversion, but none in VIC. Anyone got any idea of which Victorian stations have put up their hands?
Omitted again by ACMA is any backbone to address re-planning of Perth/SW WA and the Brisbane spectrum congestion (encompassing Gympie - Toowoomba - Lismore).
Not as far as I know, but I guess there could be a couple weāre not aware of. I had heard Sunshine Coast operators might be ready to pull the trigger.
I dont understand why Grants wouldnāt push for Ipswich, Geelong and Wollongong. Also Central Coast NSW.
I assume itās that they all know that it wonāt be a profitable venture for them. Itās similar to the problem digital TV multichannels face - why dilute the market?
That makes Rebel Media an interesting one - will they call the ACMAās avoidance of tough decisions and apply for planning the remote area DAB services? They have as much right to access DAB as any other broadcaster.
Weāre in this planning stand off that everyone knows thereās not enough spectrum to roll out high power regional DAB near the cities - so they just keep not encouraging it to happen and hope they never have to deal with needing to co-channel the Central Coast and Wollongong stations.
Oh Goodie. Deniliquin LAP being Review which needs to extend down to Shepparton which apart from One FM (Community), 3SRPH (Vison Australia) and ABC Shepparton in the Morning. Southern Cross Austero owns that market commerically.
I would like 3NE to go FM and cover a Big Area to include which give a bit of competition to the SCA Hit and Triple M but I think the Deniliquin is option is the better option. I just hope if it has the same signal strengh at Triple M Benidgo into Shepparton.
Deniliquin isnāt listed in the markets to convert though.
Ace are currently using two HPONs as commercial repeaters - 106.1 Deniliquin for 2QN and 92.5 Moama for 2MOR/Edge. Wonder if these will be amended in the new LAP.
Deniliquin stations are almost identical to Wangaratta. You arenāt missing much at all.
When I was in Deni last year, 106.1 was mono, if you are going to offer a point of difference to whatās on AM 1521, they could at least make it stereo?
