Yeah not many dead zones heading north either in Queensland along the Bruce Highway, at least as far as Rockhampton.
āRiver Of Loveā was probably his best song (for me).
Rick Price had the classic radio friendly AOR sound. I donāt mind his stuff.
Not A Day Goes By was a staple on 973 some 10 years ago.

And each step they took after that definitely lost them ground in the Brisbane radio ratings.

Yeah not a day went by without them playing it ![]()
Time for another forgotten Aussie Artist! Anyone knows Rick Price?
Yeah he was popular with the stations like MIX 106.5 and the old 2UW.
The United States did not adopt the DAB or DAB+ system of digital radio. I hired a car in Los Angeles last year and was surprised to have a HD radio in the car - and HD does not stand for high definition (which I thought it did at the time). After decades of common radio broadcasting technologies - AM and FM - we now see the world adopting different radio technologies.
Check out these videos that explain the how HD radio works.
I bought an Insignia HD Radio when I was in Hawaii in 2016 (at Best Buy for US$45).
My main surprise was the number of stations in the States transmitting HD Radio. In Honolulu, there were only 4 stations using it, mainland was better, but here in Oz, at least all stations are using DAB where itās available.

i wouldnāt rent a car in the US without Sirius XM in it. last two times ive been to the US iāve paid extra for it but itās totally worth it (for me) - i drove coast to coast from LA to Florida via Houston and almost had no dropouts (the only ones were in the big cities where the skyscrapers blocked the signal)
So what exactly is Sirius XM. I know itās satellite subscription radio. Is is a lot more choice? Is it all the one company? Are there ads? Is it music and talkback?
I know I could google it but I reckon you could explain it betterā¦thanks in advance.
Is is a lot more choice?
a ton more choice - theres around 450 channels of everyhting you can imagine. everything from dedicated channels for the 50ās, to Elvis, to Springsteen. They have Both conservative and liberal talk, country of all genres, kids, tons of sports channels (quite a few teams have dedicated channels) Howard Stern, Religious stations, and even public broadcasting from us and canada
because it is delivered by satellite there is coverage for most of the usa

Yes, though mainland only, so not available to Hawaii or Alaska.
Sirius and XM were competing offerings initially, but merged in 2008.
With the sports channels can you hear AFL/Cricket/league/Union?
HD Radio is also a much better brand, as itās obvious what it is to consumers.

i didnāt hear any. i did listen to a ton of baseball tho
With AFL and NRL Finals on right now, I had a look to see if thereās any live coverage on Sirius XM, there isnāt, but I spotted this packaged show.

Pretty much all of the rental cars Iāve had in the US have had HD radio. The HD radio system, however, unlike our DAB+ system, has a significant disadvantage in that it can greatly affect DXing. Stations +/- 200 kHz from a station broadcasting HD radio can be wiped out since HD radio broadcasts on the sidebands.

Hereās an example of HD radio coming on and completely wiping out reception of a station 200 kHz away: The effect of HD Radio interference on an analog FM signal ā FM Radio DX

From memory, it was more like around 150 channels, but to fit the 150 channels, thereās a lot of compression - it sounded worse than most DAB+ stations here, from memory. Their satellite muxes have about 4.4 mbps of capacity (after taking into account error correction and encryption overhead), so if you do the maths, itās only on average about 32 kbps per station. Most of the rentals cars I had also had Sirius XM, but I didnāt listen to it much because of how bad the audio quality was. Normal analogue FM has much better audio quality.
Yeah , for example 10 music stations that sound compressed is much worse than 2 great music stations with quality audio. Itās unfortunate 2ch and 2ue both donāt sound as good anymore.
