Nice work.
That blue and the angled backdrop gives me Wake Up vibes.
Looks great. The angles in the background need to be changed though, agree on the Wake Up comment and the Today logo looks like the unsure emoji, need to align the arch below to be level.
Reminds me of The Morning Show from Global in Canada before their recent relaunch.
I like the colours and overall idea. The text could be better aligned and the logo could use some surgery.
Using the ABC font though? Tut-tut.
Was waiting for someone to notice the font
Looking back, I realized how bad it was, plus reading the design speak over the ABC News revamp, so I have some ideas on how the Licht supers could’ve been sold…
I get the browser tab-like design was to create a sort of homage to the C in CNN, but the straighter edges and the ‘lip’ next to the headlines didn’t immediately make that impression.
Like ABC drawing inspirations by encircling the Lissajous with a round rectangle, maybe a round box can be used as the main headline device (with a sharp corner on the top right because of the N)? It can be seen as using the negative space in the C, where the Breaking News etc tags and ticker can be the top and bottom parts. Then, when breaking news occurs, a red outline can flash from the sharp angle and circles around the box to create the sense of urgency.
Horizontal programme slugs make a return, as I like how much more breathing room it added (MLN’s BBC Anything rule!). The ‘Live’ is now more subtle and makes more sense than financial indices and time when put underneath the CNN watermark.
The current, graphic IPPs (the in-programme promos) succeeded from the previous package, and they looked cluttered in both iterations. Why not make use of the ticker instead and build a smaller banner? Nobody will pay attention to the tiny Harris headshot for the upcoming Town Hall when watching CNN This Morning anyways…
Okay, specialty or information-filled supers are where my brief starts to fall apart. The elections one looked okay because it doesn’t have all the referendum and vote statistics in, but the Milton one was tricky.
I thought about making the line with regional wind speed and gusts the same height as the ticker, that way the headline may be able to fit in more lines instead of squeezing them in (CNN made a grave mistake not developing a CNN Sans Ultra Condensed font!), but the headline ultimately looked smaller and squeezed like a barcode. It didn’t help that the map needs to be legible too. I made this at around 2am one night - the ‘Huricane’ in the supers may be a giveaway for that
Some other random stuff I have around…
What if TVNZ 7 is still around and got the 2016 rebrand? Attempted to keep the 3D-ness of the original logo, so used a slit at the numeral like the D in Duke. Hopefully it’s not too similar to Seven!
And some supers, basically reskinned from the previous Breakfast ones, just without the weather as they didn’t carry them at the end of their life (the ticker looked a bit like subheading though).
The background in the ‘infographic’ was taken from an old video from @NaruTVMock, with contents based on this Medieval-esque saga from a New Zealand comedy channel I watch, which is apt for the purpose
Along the same line, this is the Nightly News in the ‘tombstone’ style of HSV/BTQ7 in 1989/92 respectively. The former’s opener with the Australian map was what piqued my interest, and then I modified the symbol I recreated for the latter.
(P.s. For those interested, I used ntscQT, a simple EXE application, for the wobbly VHS ‘aesthetic’!)
Have at me.
absolutely lovely.
would’ve elevated the relaunch
Tried my hand at ‘fixing’ the ABC graphics from the relaunch in August by attempting to bring it more inline with the website.
Love it!
I’d probably make the headline text blue and make the ticker background blue. The all black looks a little bit dull.
Been playing around with AI to create a concept I’ve been dreaming up - an Auckland Media Precinct housing the major public and commercial broadcast, print and digital media companies. Any tips on specific prompt wording/utilising GPT’s properly please let me know.
Prompt: "Design a vibrant Media Precinct set in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, featuring several distinct 3-4 story buildings, each reflecting the unique branding and media specialisation of prominent New Zealand media organisations. Showcase a modern, sustainable architectural style with glass facades, green rooftop gardens, catwalks linking upper levels, and open social spaces with views of the waterfront.
TVNZ Building: A transparent, adaptable structure with large glass walls revealing bustling TV studios visible to the public, a digital media wall streaming live broadcasts, and sleek, flexible newsroom spaces. The interior aesthetic combines deep blues, whites, and metallic finishes, creating a polished, high-tech feel.
RNZ Building: A warm, intimate space with acoustically designed radio studios, a live performance lounge, and a collaborative open newsroom. The facade incorporates soundproof glass, warm earth tones, and wooden textures, providing a calm, listener-focused atmosphere. A public viewing area showcases live interviews and music sessions.
MediaWorks Building: A dynamic, industrial-chic structure with versatile studios for both radio and video shows. The design uses exposed concrete and metal, with vibrant accent colors, retractable studio walls, and a social media hub for real-time engagement. An interactive media wall and spacious lounge areas encourage public interaction.
NZME Building: Community-centered, with glass-walled spaces for the iHeartRadio Lounge for live performances, a collaborative newsroom for print and digital media, and a OneRoof hub displaying real estate listings on touchscreen tables. The building’s interior blends clean lines, natural materials, and lush greenery, emphasizing growth and connectivity.
SKY Building: A bold and immersive environment designed for sports broadcasting, with expansive sound stages, fan-viewing areas, and a digital news hub for live-streaming sports content. The design features dynamic colors, stadium-style seating, and VIP lounges with panoramic rooftop views of the Viaduct.
All buildings feature rooftop gardens with native plants, solar panels, and rainwater collection systems, enhancing sustainability. On the top level, a greenhouse event space serves as a shared gathering spot with glass walls and lush interiors. Walkways and open plazas between buildings showcase public art, outdoor screens, and seating, creating an energetic, community-friendly media hub."
Open to feedback/ideas/suggestions - this is a different kind of mock that we are typically used to seeing in this feed, so I hope you like the concept.
@medianz From my point of view, MediaCityNZ is New Zealand’s answer to MediaCityUK! Integrated facilities include TV and radio studios, newsrooms and post production suites while shared services include IT, logistics and marketing.
What if my dream commercial talk radio venture, TalkNZ, had chosen to use the same colour as Disney+? Named Aurora, the colour pays homage to the aurora borealis and the main character from the beloved Disney classic, Sleeping Beauty.
Moreover, imagine if TalkNZ had a logo reminiscent of Bravo’s design.
I’ve been playing around on ChatGPT to create a new studio for Today and Today Extra. Yes the logos are the NBC Today logo but you get the gist. Was aiming for something similar to what we currently have but with less of the light boxes and more natural tones. ChatGPT really likes the stereotypical Australian images when I mentioned the word Australia.
Hard no to AI “art” thank you
Still better than most of the mocks in this thread lol
Shots fired!
