Random Mocks

A bit France 24-esque with the thin box borders and gradients… The programme slugs have too much empty spaces for accommodating the custom graphics though.

Some ideas on bringing CBS Weekend News closer to the new Evening News supers…

Cold open

1 - Used the same text position as the current ones, but replaced the box with an edge gradient (I couldn’t recreate the exact gradient they used on EN!).
2A&B - For the headlines, I wanted to use the same dot heading as EN does during breaks, and needed a way to animate it from the CBS logo. A vertical variant of Gretel’s deconstructed eyemark could work, but a bit too detailed for such tiny space. Partly inspired by it and partly inspired by how the bulletpoints move in EN when presenting infographics, I used the center ‘pupil’ pulling upwards with a trail and showing the headline, while drawing the transparency of the wordmark out to be a watermark. Crude pair of storyboards to show how it works.
3 - Unified the Israel-Gaza war subheading in the rounded rectangle device (used in the Eye on America America portion of their pre-launch promo).

Supers

A - Figured they could utilise the rounded box and the orange gradient from the circle EN logo more to stand out. The pill shape for the correspondent location is originally extended to the edge (like the World Temp/Finance Index pushbacks), but decided against it.
B - A unified gradient fade. Not sure if the W/M needs to be there all the time though!

“Still ahead” headlines

A - Subheading style taken from EN’s RoundUp segment.
B - Centered the text to accommodate and mix more elements from the wipes they’re using (the outlined eyemark, pattern and the main dot device)

And breathe…
