Radio Stations - Music Logs

It would be great if the likes of Triple M, Gold & Magic had a list with this much variety instead of the same old songs every day.

On this particular night, “Sweet but Psycho” by Ava Max (a regular on Nova these days despite the song being more than five years old) was played inside the first 20 minutes, a (rather annoying) Liberty X throwback was played and, 24 minutes later, Mimi Webb’s then-new song “Red Flags” was played for the only time on the network (before which Webb was interviewed ahead of the release of her debut album, “Amelia”). Wrapping up the hour was “Green Green Grass” by George Ezra.

I was lucky enough to program the Andy Show’s music on Tuesday Morning at 7am on Braidwood FM 88.9. Thanks Andy!

Here is the playlist.

Running the Night Lionel Richie
Stay the Night Benjamin Orr
The Stranger John Farnham
Strangers on a Train The Sports
Hanky Panky Madonna
Hanky Panky Tommy James and the Shondells
Lady whats your name Swanee
Lady Writer Dire Straits
Til the End Toto
Endless Road The Time Bandits
Wrap her up Elton John
Wrapped around your finger The Police
I’m Gonna Miss You Milli Vanilli
Missing Me Electric Pandas
My Brave Face Paul McCartney
Brave Kate Cebrano
Don’t Blame Me Little River Band
No one is to blame Howard Jones
The Day That Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee The Hollies
I shot the sheriff|Eric Clapton
Good Morning Judge 10cc
Good Morning Good Morning Beatles
Dig a Pony Beatles
Digging in the Dirt Peter Gabriel

A bit of a double shot theme with the titles.

Also I tried to create some sort of story or link (a bit obscure) . Our fictitious character was running through the night and met a stranger on a train and it led to hanky panky. He fell in love but it got a bit too much for the new love interest especially he wanted to wrap her up and that Police song is creepy. So he started to miss her as they broke up. He had to be brave, then the blame game started. Then he went crazy and shot the sheriff and Sam McGee. Had to go to court to see the judge . Then it went a bit different with the Beatles I think he was still getting over her , finally he was digging the dirt, it was all over.

Laoma, looked like an interesting list, but couldn’t read it, must have been some foreign characters in there that made my “speech to text” software chuck a fit.

I got rid of the characters, hopefully the speech text software will be better now. The characters are there because I cut and paste from a google sheet. I also created a youtube music play list if you wanted to listen.

I missed your show but now listening to your friend’s show. Keep up the good work with The Fresh Mix!

November 1990 was about when I first started paying close attention to the charts. Great list.

Lol, that was about when I started losing interest in the charts!

It was at the very tail end of the best of pop and pop rock music that’s for sure. From about the mid 90s onward I mostly prefer the rock and alternative charters.

I think we are the same in some ways. Although I do dig around the charts in the 90s and up to 2005 for my Billy Bob requests for the theme I have. Could be a song that only made the top 100.

I did briefly follow the charts in 1999 or so.

It’s been 6 months since Mediaworks’ Channel X went online. Since that point, advertising has been slowly incorporated through local ads and branded ID spots but otherwise is still largely uninterrupted DJ-free music 24/7. It’s also been slowly extending out its playlist scope, adding some early-to-mid 2010s songs into the mix. As such here’s another sample of a typical hour, half a year after launch:

Channel X 94.0 - Southland, NZ
“Your Throwback Playlist”
Thursday 9th November 2023 - 12-1pm NZDT

“Creep” - Radiohead
“Cosmic Girl” - Jamiroquai
“Crawl” - Atlas
“Hold My Hand” - Hootie & The Blowfish
“By The Way” - Red Hot Chili Peppers
“Cool Me Down” - The Black Seeds
“Keep The Faith” - Bon Jovi
“What Is Love?” - Haddaway
“The Greatest View” - Silverchair
“Over My Head (Cable Car)” - The Fray
“Epic” - Faith No More
“Ms. Jackson” - Outkast
“Blurry” - Puddle Of Mudd
“Not Given Lightly” - Chris Knox
“Still Into You” - Paramore

One of the very few decent logs currently on NZ radio IMO.

How much has Star 104.5 on the Central Coast of NSW changed in the last 5 years?

Well, to find out, let’s look at their playlist on this day 5 years ago & compare it to now, courtesy of Lava.

The first one from this day in 2018 was not long after Star 104.5 hit #1 on the Central Coast radio ratings for the first time, just 0.1 ahead of (what was then) Sea FM.

Star 104.5 - Central Coast, NSW
“More Music Variety”
Wednesday 21st November 2018 - 10am-12pm AEDT

10am

“Missing” Everything But The Girl
“Before I Go” Guy Sebastian
“(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life” Bill Medley / Jennifer Warnes
“Whataya Want From Me” Adam Lambert
“Too Funky” George Michael

Fast forward to today, and Star 104.5 has now been a clear #1 for the last 3 years, mainly due to the fact that (what is now) Hit 101.3 & Triple M (formerly 2GO) had become less local over the last 5 years.

Star 104.5 - Central Coast, NSW
“More Music Variety”
Tuesday 21st November 2023 - 10am-12pm AEDT

“Calm Down (Remix)” Rema / Selena Gomez
“Love Generation” Bob Sinclar
“Flowers” Miley Cyrus

“All Night Long (All Night)” Lionel Richie
“Bad Blood (Taylor’s Version)” Taylor Swift
“Paint The Town Red” Doja Cat
“Gives You Hell” The All-American Rejects
“Independent Women (Part 1)” Destiny’s Child

As you can see, Star has become a bit more pop based, as well as playing less from the 80s, down from 3 per hour in 2018 to just 1 per hour in 2023.

To go down in history as the first solo winner of Popstars.

His wife, whom he met on the show.

Yep, they are living near Warrnambool these days according to my research. Out of the music industry entirely.

After Bardot, the remaining winners of Popstars (Scandal’Us, Scott Cain and Kayne Taylor) lasted no more than two songs.

From what I also know, Bardot became a four-piece in 2001 before going their own ways the following year. Both Katie Underwood (with Disco Montego) and Sophie Monk had solo careers of varying success, though it’s the latter who remains in the media today.
