Radio Stations - Music Logs

Thanks @TV-Expert

I’ve given up listening to Hot 91 or Hot Tomato for this very reason.

Qld hasn’t had a prolonged lockdown since mid May 2020, the revenues would’ve bounced back to support funding a MD for local music in both markets.

No wonder Hit is poorly rating in many markets.

Star seems weirdly positioned given Power and the competition they have from Hit, there’s just too much rock in that playlist - honestly most of those songs on Star wouldn’t feel odd on a regional Triple M, which is a strange place for them to be.

It’s just odd to aim to put a station in the middle of Triple M and Hit, when they have Power in the market with a rock format, they just end up overlapping their own audience too much. Star playing the better version of Zombie seemingly at the exact same time as Power played that weirdly reworded cover would be the highlight of them overlapping too much.

I think either they should hit Hit from the other side, and be fresher and more modern; or just go fully the other way and embrace a Breeze or Smooth style station and go female skewed soft AC, the main gap left.

Excellent suggestions and if Ronnie Stanton was still the group PD, a likelihood of something similar happening. He knows all about such formats over in Canada where he currently is.

Rathbone lacks the vision.

I agree, soft AC is the main gap and surely one of them should give it a whirl when there are four FM stations in a regional market.

Funny you should post this, I live in the Canberra licence area but this morning I have been putting together a music log for a German commercial radio station I have been listening to over the past few months. Interestingly, some of the songs are the same.

I have a Sangean WFR1 FM/DAB+/WiFi radio on the kitchen bench, which is tuned to Mix106.3 on FM, MyCanberra Digital or Snow DAB on digital, and Antenne Bayern on WiFi.

I will post the Antenne Bayern log later today, got work to do. BTW, I’m a 10 year lurker and decided to post. Will do a post on my observations of German radio later as well.

Probably 2CA is my choice! MIX 106.3 is ok too. However after listening to community radio I tend to be tuning into Mix Cloud first these days. 2UE whilst they repeat the same songs a bit too much have this good mix of 2CH and 2CA plus some surprises in between especially in the evenings. It is just lifeless compared to 2CA. If it had more life like 2CA then it would be a better station than 2CA.

@rugbyskier welcome great to have you here. Look forward to your posts.

Agreed. The 2CA log is quite good, better than Mix 106.3. The Hit log is quite good too.

I’d be very interested in the Antenne Bayern log. Is it a rock station primarily? European rock stations are quite interesting.

The main station on FM and DAB plays pop, rock and hip-hop from the past 20 years but doesn’t go too heavy with the rock and hip-hop. There is a DAB station called Rock Antenne that is solely a rock format.

If I was living in Canberra, I’ll streaming or listening to Spotify.

Yes, Rock Antenne is the one I’m thinking of.

Rock Antenne is co-located with Antenne Bayern in a studio complex in the Munich suburb of Ismaning. If you want to see the last hour’s playlist, it’s available at Song-Suche.

Rock Antenne are heavily AOR/melodic rock skewed. That style of rock is popular in Germany; I am half German myself by ancestry so perhaps that explains why I like it?

The online only stations are good too, such as Rock Antenne Classic Perlen (mainly Classic AOR).

That’s quite a good log, except they need to play more music with less talk. 8-9 songs an hour is too little.
