Take 97.3 out the back and shoot it.

Nirvana into Jason Derulo. Bloody hell.

I’ve been saying that for some time

Yes what a clanger. I have to give them kudos though for The Weeknd / Blinding Light. That’s a cracker of a new song IMO - such an 80s vibe.

I still think the WS/Gold lists don’t differ too much from 97.3/Mix. Throw in just one or two newer songs into WS and Gold and they’d be pretty close. The real outlier of the 5 is 96FM in my opinion, and even then it’s not out of the ballpark. But as you say it’s the demo that ties the 5 together, minor differences in playlists aren’t that important.

I agree:+1::blush:

If I had to pick one, I think it would be Gold. That 96FM log has become very safe. It sounded better 3 months ago when I was in WA.
I am gob smacked how Mix 102.3 rates that well.

As you can see above, it has a real “Classic Hits” format, which does provide a good musical alternative to WS, Smooth & 2UE whilst in Western Sydney via 101.1FM, as well as being a music alternative to “Talkin’ Sport” on 2BS whilst in Bathurst via 900AM.

It’s also musically different to 2ST, which can be heard into Western Sydney & the Blue Mountains via 102.9 from Bowral. It used to sound a bit similar to 2LT, but has since moved to a more modern AC format, in which it uses the same log as River 94.9 in Ipswich.

I think it’s similar to 2ue’s playlist?

Yup, I was just about to say that, though I would have to think a tad more adventurous, but not much. Most of it again cliche, but two stand outs seem to be Marcia Hines “something’s missing”. Last time I heard that on radio was on Hit radio 11 2UW in around 1981, and The Doors “Road house blues”. Last time played on radio was when 2WS had just switched to FM in 1993, they still had a good portion of their old AM playlist before FMing it and culling it back by the mid 90s.

About two weeks ago 2UE played DeBarge’s “Rhythm of the night”. Again, the last time this track got played on any commercial radio station was the original “massive playlist” version of the old 2Day FM in 1985; though I may think 2WL and 2OO in Wollongong might have given it a few spins in 1986 when I was staying with relos.

So maybe the old dorks of the radio industry are starting to leave and die off, and most probably with new talent behind the scenes of these stations, occasionally they can break out from “The System”

Let’s hope so.

BTW that DeBarge song gets flogged on my iPod. But yeah it’s a rarity on the radio. Might have heard it on Magic UK or Breeze here in SEQ but that’s about it.

I don’t mind the 4BH playlist really and it’s good background for gym etc. They do need to keep it fresh though and watch out for the jarring of some songs.

Does it make you forget about the worries on your mind?

BTW- have heard it semi regularly on 2XL/Forever Classic. I’m sure @matt86 gives it a run on the Awesome 80s too.

It does  I leave them all behind.

I can’t work out which is the worst - Triple M Gold Coast or Mix Sunshine Coast. I think Triple M.

Mix FM get luckier a bit more often, so I’d go MMM. Both stations would make me turn off several times in that hour (as would HT to be fair)

None of those playlists would keep me on their stations to be honest. Even I was once a welded on 92.7 listener. Not anymore.

At least there’s Zinc 96 as an alternative on the Sunshine Coast. Likewise for Rebel & Breeze on the Gold Coast.

Speaking of which, from the same hour as the three Sunshine Coast stations…

If you ask me, that’s a better playlist than Mix FM. You can’t really compare between the two.

Yeah 92.7 used to be a good listen. What the hell happened? I actually prefer Hot 91!
