Don’t give up on us baby / David Soul is such a 2CH staple! I remember hearing it often on 2CH in the late 90s

My 2 cents is it’s too sleepy. 4KQ is so much more upbeat overall and even though they play lots of 60s and 70s they sound more contemporary and alive than that list.

I tend to agree, listening online to 4kq on occasions… I still find myself listening to terrestrial radio even though it’s online. The great thing is 2ch sounds good on dab where 4kq isn’t as good.

I was listening to 4WK the other morning and thought I’d share the breakfast playlist, something different as it’s the local breakfast show on what is otherwise a largely networked station. And of course it’s worth noting I was listening to these songs in (albeit weak signal) AM stereo:

4WK 963 AM Stereo – Warwick, QLD
‘Breakfast with Graham Healy’
Mon 03/02/20, 0800-0845 AEST

Moir Sisters – Good Morning (How Are You?)
Elton John – Sacrifice
McCoys – Hang on Sloopy
Hooters – And We Danced
Bee Gees – Emotions
Buddy Holly - Everyday (it was the anniversary of ‘The Day The Music Died’, hence the Buddy Holly song)

Certainly older-skewing, but if they weren’t a Super Network station they could do worse than run a playlist of this music all day - it’d be different enough to 4GR/Triple M and certainly Hit/4AK

A few years back 4AK did just that and was playing a completely separate log from the network targeting a much more female friendly audience (think Mix106.5, etc)

And also this is on FM in Toowoomba city so a pretty good alternative to AM Triple M (ugh) 4GR

With the music playlists of 2UE, Magic & 4BH now on Lava, I thought it would interesting to see how it compares with other stations.

Let’s look particularly in Sydney.

This gives a clear insight on how 2UE compares with 2CH, WSFM & Smooth.

Interesting. My two cents based on those lists.

WSFM. Surprised it rates. Those songs are so overflogged and safe. Completely different station to its supposed sister station 4KQ. Zero similarly.
Smooth. Still good but deteriorating. Getting safer and newer. Less wow factor.
2CH. Some interesting songs but too downbeat to take on Smooth
2UE. Not a bad list. More upbeat than 2CH.

Hmm… would any of you prefer the following SUMO log?

Wild Night- JOHN MELLENCAMP
Joyride- ROXETTE
Ramble On- LED ZEPPELIN
Extraordinary Girl/Letterbomb- GREEN DAY
Secret- OMD
Hangin’ Tough- NKOTB
Diamonds- CHRIS REA
Calm Down- KILLING HEIDI
Love Takes Time- ORLEANS
Can’t Find My Way Home- BLIND FAITH
Boys Do Fall In Love- ROBIN GIBB
Silver Star- FRANKIE VALLI+ FOUR SEASONS
Daughter- PEARL JAM
Why- ANNIE LENNOX
Method Of Modern Love- HALL+ OATES
Underwear Goes Inside The Pants- LAZYBOY

(Sumo FM is just basically one big playlist on Spotify in shuffle mode. It almost sounds more focused than 2UE, imo).

The station’s overall ratings fell for 4 consecutive surveys from 8.4% in S5/2019 to 7.5% in S8/2019. Smooth, meanwhile, had a slight rise fom 9.1% in S5/2019 to 9.3% in S8/2019.

Gold 104.3, on the other hand, rates much better than WS. Why? Probably because their playlist is a bit better than WS.

Here’s an example from yesterday.

Gold 104.3 - Melbourne, VIC
“Better Music & More of It”
Thursday 6th February 2020 - 2-3pm AEDT

2020-02-06 14:05:33 AEDT Jimmy Barnes “No Second Prize”

2020-02-06 14:49:52 AEDT Billy Idol “Hot In The City”

And here’s one for 4KQ from this afternoon, using the 1-2pm hour, as the 2UE/Magic/4BH log is not time-shifted outside of AEDT (AEST in April-October).

4KQ - Brisbane, QLD
“Classic Hits”
Friday 7th February 2020 - 1-2pm AEST

2020-02-07 13:49:31 AEST Bryan Ferry “Let’s Stick Together”
2020-02-07 13:55:14 AEST George McCrae “Rock Your Baby”

Yep, 4KQ is definitely very different to that of WS & Gold.

2ue is the best followed by 4kq.

Even though it skews much older, the 4KQ playlist craps all over the Gold 104 one. Though they both crap all over WSFM

The weekend or evening playlist on 4KQ is even better and broader.

There’s certainly less difference between Smooth and WS/Gold than there used to be.

Smooth Relax is the new Smooth

I’ll have that Gold log any day over both the Sydney stations.

The above Smooth log is also (mostly) heard in Melbourne (as well as on its DAB-only stations in Brisbane, Adelaide & Perth), but yes, I agree with you that Gold has a better log than WS, which has been the case for many years.

Does anyone have an updated “Stations.json” file like the one @Dj_Cazzah posted back in October 2018? Need it to grab logs to recent DAB+ stations.

Baby Animals - EARLY WARNING
Powderfinger - MY HAPPINESS
Kingswood - SAY YOU REMEMBER
Steve Winwood - VALLERIE
Shawn Mendes - IN MY BLOOD
Tonic - IF YOU COULD ONLY SEE
Def Leppard - LOVE BITES
Spin Doctors - LITTLE MISS CAN’T BE WRONG
John Mellencamp - CHERRY BOMB
Vertical Horizon - EVERYTHING YOU WANT
Train - DRIVE BY

Versus the Triple M regional playlist (taken from Bendigo, as none of the WA SCA stations seem to be outputting music data outside of local breakfast)

Triple M
“Greatest Hits”
Wednesday 11/03/2020 1-2pm

The Rolling Stones - START ME UP
Men At Work - DOWN UNDER
Tom Cochrane - LIFE IS A HIGHWAY
Post Malone - CIRCLES
Billy Joel - WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE
Vance Joy - WE’RE GOING HOME
Free - ALL RIGHT NOW (I thought they were only doing 80s-Now?)
Birds Of Tokyo - TWO OF US
Whitney Houston - HOW WILL I KNOW
Oasis - DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER
Seaforth - LOVE THAT
Chris de Burgh - DON’T PAY THE FERRYMAN

So the RedFM listeners are in for a real shock, but suprisingly the Spirit log isn’t quite as dissimilar to the Triple M log as I first thought. I suspect SCA have been skewing it towards the greatest hits log since they brought the station. Also, would anyone be interested in seeing how community stations daytime formats stack up against each other, or their commercial ‘competitors’ (for lack of a better word).
