Radio Stations - Music Logs

The station’s overall ratings fell for 4 consecutive surveys from 8.4% in S5/2019 to 7.5% in S8/2019. Smooth, meanwhile, had a slight rise fom 9.1% in S5/2019 to 9.3% in S8/2019.

Gold 104.3, on the other hand, rates much better than WS. Why? Probably because their playlist is a bit better than WS.

Here’s an example from yesterday.

Gold 104.3 - Melbourne, VIC

And here’s one for 4KQ from this afternoon, using the 1-2pm hour, as the 2UE/Magic/4BH log is not time-shifted outside of AEDT (AEST in April-October).

4KQ - Brisbane, QLD

2020-02-07 13:55:14 AEST George McCrae “Rock Your Baby”

Yep, 4KQ is definitely very different to that of WS & Gold.

2ue is the best followed by 4kq.

Even though it skews much older, the 4KQ playlist craps all over the Gold 104 one. Though they both crap all over WSFM

The weekend or evening playlist on 4KQ is even better and broader.

There’s certainly less difference between Smooth and WS/Gold than there used to be.

Smooth Relax is the new Smooth

I’ll have that Gold log any day over both the Sydney stations.

The above Smooth log is also (mostly) heard in Melbourne (as well as on its DAB-only stations in Brisbane, Adelaide & Perth), but yes, I agree with you that Gold has a better log than WS, which has been the case for many years.

Does anyone have an updated “Stations.json” file like the one @Dj_Cazzah posted back in October 2018? Need it to grab logs to recent DAB+ stations.

Since the former Redwave stations are being absorbed into the SCA empire next week, here’s what they sound like now - and what they will probably sound like afterwards.

RedFM
“Western Australia’s Best New Music”
Wednesday 11/03/2020 1-2pm

Kesha - RAISING HELL
Vydamo - GONNA MAKE IT
Flight Facilities & Aloe Blacc - BETTER THAN EVER
Tonight Live - THE EDGE
Conan Gray - MANIAC
The Script - ARMS OPEN
Blanco Brown - THE GIT UP
Mumford & Sons - BLIND LEADING THE BLIND
OneRepublic - WANTED
Audio Bully’s - ONLY MAN
The Faim - SUMMER IS A CURSE
N.E.R.D - SHE WANTS TO MOVE
Peking Duk & Safia - TAKE ME OVER
Marshmello, Yungblud & Blackbear - TONGUE TIED

Versus the hit Regional Playlist (taken from Bendigo, as none of the WA SCA stations seem to be outputting music data to the web at the moment)

hit91.9
“Hits & Old School”
Wednesday 11/03/2020 1-2pm

Halsey - GRAVEYARD
Taylor Swift - THE MAN
Pras, Ol’ Dirty Bastard & Mya - GHETTO SUPERSTAR (THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE)
Selena Gomez - RARE
Bastille - POMPEII
5 Seconds Of Summer - OLD ME
David Guetta & Kelly Rowland - WHEN LOVE TAKES OVER
Tones & I - NEVER SEEN THE RAIN
Max-A-Million - SEXUAL HEALING
The Rubens - LIVE IN LIFE
Sam Smith - TO DIE FOR
Fall Out Boy - THIS AIN’T A SCENE, IT’S AN ARMS RACE
Meduza & Goodboys - PIECE OF YOUR HEART

Spirit
“Classic Rock & Today’s Hits”
Wednesday 11/03/2020 1-2pm

Maroon 5 - MEMORIES
Baby Animals - EARLY WARNING
Powderfinger - MY HAPPINESS
Kingswood - SAY YOU REMEMBER
Steve Winwood - VALLERIE
Shawn Mendes - IN MY BLOOD
Tonic - IF YOU COULD ONLY SEE
Def Leppard - LOVE BITES
Spin Doctors - LITTLE MISS CAN’T BE WRONG
John Mellencamp - CHERRY BOMB
Vertical Horizon - EVERYTHING YOU WANT
Train - DRIVE BY

Versus the Triple M regional playlist (taken from Bendigo, as none of the WA SCA stations seem to be outputting music data outside of local breakfast)

Triple M
“Greatest Hits”
Wednesday 11/03/2020 1-2pm

The Rolling Stones - START ME UP
Men At Work - DOWN UNDER
Tom Cochrane - LIFE IS A HIGHWAY
Post Malone - CIRCLES
Billy Joel - WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE
Vance Joy - WE’RE GOING HOME
Free - ALL RIGHT NOW (I thought they were only doing 80s-Now?)
Birds Of Tokyo - TWO OF US
Whitney Houston - HOW WILL I KNOW
Oasis - DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER
Seaforth - LOVE THAT
Chris de Burgh - DON’T PAY THE FERRYMAN

So the RedFM listeners are in for a real shock, but suprisingly the Spirit log isn’t quite as dissimilar to the Triple M log as I first thought. I suspect SCA have been skewing it towards the greatest hits log since they brought the station. Also, would anyone be interested in seeing how community stations daytime formats stack up against each other, or their commercial ‘competitors’ (for lack of a better word).

Here’s a freshly updated one + a test one for ABC.

Thanks because this led me to the Radio App update. I stopped using it a few weeks ago after experiencing multiple new problems and the Just Played images were stuck.

Mine’s still glitchy as well, Magic is still listed as Macquarie sort of. I’ve also found in the Stream.json that Magic and 2UE streams both share a 2UE DNS.

I’ll have that Red FM playlist any day over the Hit Log. I agree, I think the Red FM listeners will be in for a big shock.
As for Sprit, it use to be a lot more adventurous with its music about 6 months ago. I say SCA have been slowly adding their bland cheap Feel good Triple M music to the Spirit playlist.

Yep, I 100% agree. Spirit definitely used to be much different, even earlier this year it sounded pretty much the same as it always was before the acquisition. Never would’ve heard Maroon 5 or Shawn Mendes on Spirit 6 months ago. Red FM and Hit are barely even the same format, I didn’t notice much crossover at all when looking through both of their full logs for today.

If I am listening to new music, that music on Red FM is the stuff I listen too. I agree Red and Hit are different formats. It’s sad to see these stations taken over by SCA.

It’s another case of a uniquely WA brand being ruined by the blow-ins from over east (and I say that as a NSW resident).

We need to be careful where WA is concerned. They might cut off our food supply in the next big eastern drought

Carnarvon folk are might be in for an even bigger shock when they turn the radio on Monday morning.

Hot Hits 99.7 (to be Hit 99.7) more closely aligned to Triple M at the moment. They take Kennedy/Molly and used to take My Generation. Maybe a bit more top 40 pop than Triple M though.

And Classic Hits 666 (to become Triple M), an addictive singer/songwriter oldies format, very different to the current Triple M log posted above.

Spirit announcing the change to Triple M on social media this week. Already not many fans of the afternoon Kennedy/Molly/Sportsday afternoon lineup currently on Spirit.

A terrible shame about Carnarvon as well. They were great locally programmed stations. I guess it had to happen eventually.
