Thanks for the screen captures

I was wondering after looking again at the RDS list, if 100.3 BAY FM have their PTY defined or not & what group codes they’re using?

Also curious re what PI codes ‘Vision’ might be using on their LPONs with RDS in Bris city & Logan area if you receive these? I don’t think Vision have RDS on many of their TX, but can’t recall seeing any of their PI codes captured. Curious to know if they adopt a standard PI across all their FM LPON & HPON RDS TXs across the country.

With still no SpE DX captured down here, will have to hope that Santa delivers on my wishes come Christmas day.

It’s an embarrassment and will ring them to hopefully persuade a change.

I think we were all a bit wrong, from what I can see this receiver hates dynamic PS, even had some issues with slow decode on ABC Classic FM, being “Classic” then alternating to “FM”. it did manage a decode after 3 mins of listening this morning. it got stuck a few times with some interesting results… “For .9” and “Counthe” was another one… Signal taken from the Barracks looking straight at Mt Cootha

Thanks very much for that @TV.Cynic

I occasionally discover with some community FM stations here in NSW
that their techs can forget to look at the AF field of their RDS encoders when doing the initial programming, hence some are populated with nonsense frequencies.

Also from experience, I tend not to trust, on weak reception stations, SDR Console for the display of correct AF & Group info - it can be a bit hit & miss.
On the group info for BAY FM from your displays, I think safe to say they use Group codes 0A, 2A & 4A.

The latest download version of SDR Console now has an MPX output that you can interface via a Virtual Audio Cable with RDS Spy. RDS Spy performs better than SDR# or SDR Console for the correct display of info & additional RDS features & information - a great way to learn more about RDS.

I hooked up the virtual cable (that was fun :grinning:) . Not sure what report you are interested in from RDS Spy for Bay FM (or others) but this is the group analyser.

Excellent work getting it all going, can be problematic :+1:
Thanks for confirmation screenshot of the group codes
I guess for 100.3 BAY FM. Another look at their AF from the AF tab of Basic RDS Decoder Window of RDS Spy.

For 4AAA (from RDS Spy); Group Codes, AF if applicable & Basic RDS Decoder [Program tab] window could be useful.

Perhaps, if not too much trouble, :crossed_fingers: and if receivable/decodable from your location, filling in some blanks for the Gold Coast stations, there’s some PI/PTY codes & more missing from the AUS/NZ RDS List - that would be useful & appreciated by the tech dxers here. Pasting a pic below.

Excellent work @TV.Cynic :+1: Thank you.
I updated the AUS RDS list of your updates for all members interested in such.

Also a couple of general tech hints for all users of RDS Spy re a little info on the group codes:-

Group 4A (Clock Time - CT) code transmits only once a minute , ‘if’ the encoder is programmed to transmit CT. If there is a BER higher than 0% there is always a chance this code might not be detected or data associated with it not decoded.

Some stations use RT+ (Radio Text Plus). Triple M & Hit FM use this across many of their FM stations. If you see Group code 3A being transmitted & BER is 0% or a very low BER then there is a chance RT+ is being used & you have a chance of decoding it with RDS Spy. Triple M & Hit FM use group codes 3A, 11A & 12A with the RT to display RT+ Song Title & Artist info, which if correctly decoded will display in RDS Spy in the Radiotext Plus fields.
Group codes 11A & 12A are only transmitted very briefly (less than 0.1% of the all transmitted group codes), usually at the beginning of a song & after the new song title/artist is updated & transmitted by the Group code 2A.
So if you’re looking for RT+ usage, look for code 3A & be patient (up to several minutes during music programming) for Group codes 11A & 12A.

Here ends todays lesson  Hopefully someone found the above useful.

OK so had a chance to do the scanning today Hit 90.9 PI code 4909 92.5 MMM PI 4925 Hot Tomato PI 4029 Metro PI 0057 Juice 107.3 PI 4073. Rebel 4994 and Breeze 4006.

Few updates to text: Hit 90.9 RT: Get that feeling, Title - artist, ON Air Now: show name, Last Played title By artist

92.5 MMM: Shares 90.9’s now playing text and just played plus on air now, and adds Weather for Gold coast and Tweed (VERY Occasionally) and “Rocks Greatest Hits”

102.9 Hot Tomato: Title - Artist (During Song), then just says “102.9 Hot Tomato, The Gold Coast’s Best Music” during ads/talk

Metro: NOW: Title - Artist(During Songs), Its All about the music(During Talk/Ads, However mostly song name stuck on during ads, and sometimes even playout commerical text)

Juice is still same as spreadsheet

Rebel and Breeze still same.

No Other New additions to the List.

Miscellaneous Housekeeping:

  1. Hit90.9 is now a captial H.
  2. 102.9 Hot Tomato occasionally changes its PS from 102.9 HOT to HOTTMTO.
  3. 92.5 MMM’s Tweed Coast forecast has been stuck for a few days.
  4. Juice’s Text appears to have a huge amount of dead space at the end of each RDS “slide”. My
Digitech radio keeps scrolling it off the screen with an underscore after about 30 characters at the
    end.
  5. Rebel appears to have changed AF again to 90.5 and 93.7(have no idea where that frequency for
them is could be an error.
  6. Breeze has updated the AF again to 92.1 and 88.9(again no idea where that frequency is)
  7. Other Gold Coast stations still not using RDS however on stream 94.1 and 4CRB 89.3 are running
    song names on stream.
  8. Hit90.9 and 92.5 MMM have started song names on stream through tunein.
  9. Saw a test RDS message on 88.5 Classic earlier today, has disappeared now, other than that no
    ABC’s with RDS.
  10. 104.1 Relay of Radio 97 lit up my RDS Light but no data
  11. Vision on 88.0 has RDS on some relays
  12. Caught 89.7 RadioTab on RDS here too. Signal appears to have gotten stronger? I’m wondering if
    thats some Troppo.
  13. RDS Injection on Hot Tomato is quite low and made my receiver spew our erroneous garbage for a
    few mins.

Thats all for now from here:)

Hi Andrew.
Great job with the compilation of scanning & note taking of the RDS stations in your region. A lot of work, much appreciated by us. :+1:

I’m not sure why you’re not able to edit. List is owned by @AustralianAerial.
But not to worry I’m fine editing for you as I have time. I started this evening & will
finish it throughout the week all going well .

One question whilst I think of it. Does 92.5 4GGG & 105.7 Radio Metro have a defined PTY or PTYN?
