Mass confusion between Macksville and Coffs Harbour over what Triple M they are listening to.
We have the same problem down here with Newcastle and Central Coast RDS displaying the same âTriple Mâ station name
Only difference with Sydney is they are upper case TRIPLE M.
No⌠the audio processing / RDS encoders etc are SCAâs concern⌠they are now mostly using Pira encoders as the inbuilt encoders (like in the case of Nautel) SCA have no control over. SCA hand audio (be it composite or AES) to BA.
Gold104.3 has implemented newsroom updates to their RDS, with their (presumably) two major headlines rotating as well as the forecast, now playing etc.
An example I saw today:
Newsroom⌠Protests in the US over George Floydâs death
Very informative RDS by 2DRY-FM in Broken Hill
Alternates between Local and National News headlines, current temp and song info.
Another station here with RDS too⌠87.8 Bounce FM⌠Playing dance music⌠With song info.
Hill FM? Nup⌠nothing.
Nah only 4WK and Radio 97 have RDS, and Radio 97 by accident cause it was in the TX and the tech couldnât work out how to turn off.
I have floated the idea a few times of rolling out RDS out to more stations. Nothing so far
Iâm assuming thatâs 103.5 at Mullumbimby.
Does it still say WAVEART or has it been turned off now?
No it says âRadio 97â now. Pretty sure the radio text is the broadcast frequencies
Speaking of 103.5 and RDS, I managed to get 103.5 Orange with RDS this morning. Text is â1035 FMâ with song title and artist.
Or rather
PS is: 1035 FM
and one of the three known RT (radio text) displays is: song title and artist
I also had Orange FM frequencies at better than normal levels this morning & slightly elevated levels of Eagle FM - nothing to squawk about thoughâŚ
No RT detail in âAustralian RDS Listâ for Radio 97 yet. Last update July 2018
Itâs funny seeing your presets knowing where you are & where youâve been, it a wonder they havenât renamed themselves or gone back to the frequency, the Fordâs obviously better than the Mitsubishi Outlander we have at work.
The Newcastle presets in the Outlander change back to just the frequency when I get into Sydney & the Illawarra stations start to be picked up or to the Illawarra RDS info I tune in.
Itâs a pretty good system with the SYNC3 that they have in the Fords.
If I press a local preset when in another area where that frequency has a different RDS station name, it will momentarily display the local preset name before correcting itself.
Conversely, when back in Newcastle, when I press my local preset again, it will momentarily display the out of town stationâs name before correcting itself.
Itâs only downsides are
-
1 kHz steps on AM manual tuning with no option to select 9 kHz steps. Makes AM DXing a pain, but redeems itself somewhat with keypad frequency entry (not quite so good when you are right handed like me!) and voice activated tuning eg âGo to AM 549â which works pretty well - most of the time!.
-
Refusing to display RDS where the station doesnât have a correct PI code. 2HD on 97.5 has this problem.
Itâs the same with my parentsâ Subaru Forester.
For example, when I was in Hobart in March 2017, after Iâve pressed âWSFM1017â on the preset list, it then changes to â7HO FMâ. It remains as âWSFM1017â on the preset list.
Interesting. Earlier in the year 106.7 3HOT did have RDS, with dynamic PS.
Perhaps theyâve now turned it off, or RDS off due to some issue?
Does your tuner display the PTY?
Think you should ask the 2HD tech to change the PI code from the default 0000 to remedy the issue, should be a quick fix.
That could be fixed by Ford with a firmware update if Ford were interested & if enough people complained & if the vehicle is very recent. Itâs quite odd the 9kHz tuning option wasnât implemented. Does it scan in 9kHz steps?
@Radiohead Iâve just noted that 3HOT 106.7 has a PI code of 0000, thatâs why itâs not registering on your tunerâŚ
No
Thanks, been meaning to email them
Yes, scanning is 9 kHz. It goes really fast too, so very difficult to get it to stop at the right moment!
Will have to somehow encourage more DXers to buy Fords so they get more complaints!
Highly unlikely that the average Joe Bloggs will complain - or even know what that means!
Ah thanks, Iâll get my Sangean out shortly and try it on that (it always pays to travel with a few radios!).
Iâm getting a really good signal on 3HOT at my hotel, 65db on the Teccy, so there should be no RDS issues then.
Oh⌠my⌠goodnessâŚ
They have been to the TANK FM school of Dynamic RDS⌠total dogs breakfast here⌠Hereâs a few shotsâŚ
LOL. Oh my lordy lordy yesâŚ
Thanks for the pics.
