RDS on Triple J Central Western Slopes (Mount Cenn Cruaich) is now also live:
Good work everyone reporting all noted RDS changes & additions to the ABC FM transmitters.
Sorry I don’t have the spare time to add pics of changes & additions, but one further RDS addition noted in Albany, WA. Total of 4 ABC outlets with RDS from the Mt.Baker (Southern Agricultural) tx.
92.9 6JJJ with changed PI of: 63F4
Some other ones active based on the FMList floating cars data:
- 88.9 ABC Local SE NSW Thredbo
- 88.9 ABC Local New England NE Tenterfield
- 95.5 ABC Local SE NSW Jindabyne
- 95.9 ABC Local Western Plains Dubbo
- 99.5 ABC Local Western Plains Mudgee
- 100.9 ABC Local Mid North Coast Gloucester
- 102.7 ABC News Radio Armidale
- 102.5 ABC RN Gloucester
- 106.3 ABC Local SE NSW Eden
I only checked NSW.
In terms of internet streaming, there are separate feeds available for four ABC radio networks. I assume that the news bulletins are state-based on RN and Classic, and that the J network feeds are identical and only timezone delayed.
| Network | States |
|---|---|
| Radio National | NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, NT |
| triple j | NSW, QLD, SA, WA, NT |
| Double J | NSW, QLD, SA, WA, NT |
| ABC Classic | NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, NT |
Looks like News Radio’s PI has changed to the new format. They’ve used ‘5’ instead of ‘P’:
Would be great to get confirmation for other ABC News Radio TXs anyone else can receive so that FMList can be updated.
To try to better capture these RDS launches (and PI changes), I’ve set up an RDS monitoring dashboard using my TEF servers. I created a summary table that shows me any RDS signals captured across my 7 FM antennas (which continually scan for RDS when no one is connected) that don’t match with FM-DX-Webserver’s RDS database:
It can also just be used as a general RDS logging/monitoring tool, with filtering as desired:
It even does mapping, which is nice:
Next step is to add automatic IM/email notifications for when it detects a new unidentified RDS signal.
For operators of TEF servers, see also my post on a user logging dashboard, to help identify misuse of the servers.
Triple Ms Sydney’s RDS has been running nothing but this competition message for probably a few weeks now.
Wish they would bring back genuinely useful RDS like program, song and weather info.
94.7 Taree has been changed to 22F5 as well.
My new RDS logging system managed to catch it as well:
I’m not sure the timezone is correct. I suspect it’s UTC rather than AEDT.
RN has also switched over to the new PI numbering system now - 23F2:
Again, it’d be great if others can confirm for other RN outlets so that FMList can be updated for the automatic logging on FM-DX-Webserver. Not much tropo around at the moment, unfortunately.
Did not take a photo but 105.1 Batemans Bay has also updated their PI Code.
Has Mt Nardi RN really got 3 spaces (2 dashes?) in the middle of their PS like that?
Not normally, no
When it’s not DST, does the UTC+11 feed just turn off? I’m curious – when DST ends in the southern states and the time goes from 2:59:59 am back to 2:00:00 am again, does that hour of music just repeat?
