Radio Data System (RDS)

It was “No Talk Day” today in respect of mental health.

So no announcers, no regular programs, no ads, just music with promos for mental health in between tracks.

Thanks. That explains it!

Is there any RDS Encoder work scheduled for Triple M 104.5 Brisbane at the moment?
The RDS RT is updating a little erratically there today.

Not to my knowledge, but then I don’t have a lot to do with the TXA Brisbane team for little bits of info like that & I have nothing to do with SCA Brisbane.

The Artarmon SCA RDS encoders are getting replaced on Wednesday & they will be continuing transmitting from Gore Hill until 1am Thursday morning (they do planned site changes overnight).

Courtesy Brisbane TEF, my personal radios cant decode it its going so fast

A bit too quick. Will be interesting to see how the car handles that later.

DAB seems Normal

Re 4MMM erratic/fast RDS RT, has now been fixed. :slightly_smiling_face:

Maryborough, Qld’s Hit & Triple M; now both transmitting RDS Clock Time (CT).

KIIS 106.5 has now fixed their RDS CT, back in sync :white_check_mark:

105.7 Triple j Sydney seems to have been without RDS RT for a month.
Anyone know what’s happening there?

The latest edition of Vehicle FM RDS Tuners than can or can’t decode non-compliant RDS PI Codes is copied below for your interest.

More vehicle results wanted. :folded_hands:

NB: It is fortuitous if a vehicle can decode RDS when a non-compliant PI code is used by a radio broadcast station. It is not to be considered a fault or a negative if a vehicle cannot decode RDS when a non compliant RDS PI code is used.
To act in the interest of all vehicle owners or users, a radio station should be using a compliant RDS PI code for all their FM transmissions.

Thanks. I’ll pass this on.

How come NewsRadio 98.5 from Mt Nardi is the only national station that kept its RDS, whilst the other stations had switched off after that short period last year where Nardi nationals got RDS?

IIRC the ABC didnt want RDS, and got annoyed, however News was left on as a test for AF to the Gold Coast 95.7 being the only station on the lot that didnt have a delay for daylight savings.

Brisbane Triple M now has Dynamic PS. “Brisbane” “'s 104.5” “Triple M” Same on B105 “Brisbane’s” “B105”

And no RT

Edit: B105 RT working. Was weak signal

Oh puke, that’s a new and awful addition.

The B105 one is particularly bad, as the name ‘B105’ does not appear on its own ‘frame’ at any point. It only appears with the apostrophe s before it. So it’s gonna look awful on car radio presets.

Let’s hope it’s just a tech having a play who sees the flaws of their ways and corrects this promptly.

Yes LETS HOPE (or that RT data has somehow made it’s way to the PS field in error).

Works related I believe.

You would be correct

Noticed also there is no longer a PTY for either 104.5 or 105.3

Tried it in the car and it looks really retrograde, half the time you’re just seeing the word ‘Brisbane’

They are being fed from our backup systems in Sydney as we do works in Brisbane this weekend.

2Day has dropped the ‘FM’ from their PS (and also from their on-air IDs):

Noted that 95.3 Smooth FM Sydney has changed its RDS PS from Smoothfm to SmoothFM.
Perhaps its been like that for a while? I have no idea when the change occurred. :person_shrugging:

In the age of multimedia it’s perhaps not surprising that 2DAY dropped the ‘FM’.
Is Sydney’s 95.3 Smooth FM the last commercial Sydney based FM broadcaster to retain the ‘FM’ in their ID?
One either hears:-
‘Smooth’ or ‘Smooth FM’ or ‘Smooth Ninety Five point Three’ on air.
Maybe the clock is ticking for Smooth to drop the FM?
