Radio Data System (RDS)

Do they ever get their tech right?

89.7 4TAB Beaudesert showing some other RDS changes too:
AF’s changed to just 93.7 (Toowoomba)
PTYN & Grp 10A gone
RT changed to: Brisbane 1008 - Toowoomba 93.7 - Warwick 95.1
And added Group 1A, ECC F0

might be a stretch for that to AF to Toowoomba from its current location but A+ for forward thinking.

Yes, my TEF in the glovebox came in handy at site this afternoon. Should of got Andrew one for Xmas lol.

I’ve always wondered. I have seen the oddest things overseas with some stations using AF to their AM frequencies. I didnt even think it was possible until I saw it. Usually in the US. I wonder if it would actually work on some tuners. But then again it would have no way to switch back technically unless it saved the AF in memory

I have only spotted the AF ‘program-ability’ of it in the RDS specs (and it did surprise me).
I’ve never seen it programmed here.

Me Either, but I have seen some interesting cases on my TEF when I went to the US in August, Specifically around the Houston/Dallas Markets. Seemed to be mostly around some of the HD Radio Stuff, so maybe it was a way for people who were listening on HD Radio to a News Station being simulcast that when the HD radio signal disappeared it went to AM. It was weird to say the least.

100.3 Bay FM Brisbane have introduced a new RDS problem (like the Nova people) with not toggling the A/B flag for their RT. This causes a real time horrid rewrite of RT over old messages in some tuners/radio receivers - not good. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Wide Bay looks like one of the markets that didn’t get the change to lower case b.

An issue preventing modifying that breeze RDS encoder config. It’s updating RT normally, so a low priority fix. PS will be breezeWB.

Much laborious recent editing of Worksheet 11 (PI Codes) of the Australian RDS List to accommodate more PI code hyperlinks for faster access & editing of NSW/VIC/QLD PI codes. Created another 6 hyperlinks & changes to all for total of 39.
Also added changes from past few days.

Great work!

Curious to see how this works in the wild. Is there much overlap between said stations?

As I’m sure I’ve discussed here before, the Canungra/Mt Tamborine overlap works super well, and the Stanthorpe/Tenterfield one fairly well if not for a slight delay in the Stanthorpe transmissions causing it to jolt a bit when it switches frequencies. But it’s such a good feature to give you continuous coverage when driving.

I’ve actually had it work haha. Was at the top of Mt Glorious, tuned to 93.7 and it flicked me to 89.7.

Look what returned to Skid Row…

A whinge ‘To Whom It May Concern’
There is someone I suspect associated with either FMLIST or fmdx.org from Europe who regularly visits our Australia RDS List spending a lot of time sitting on the Google Sheet & viewing or extracting data.

Unfortunately on the various state & NZ sheets they often sit on cell A1 & sometimes the contents of this cell; ‘MARKET’ label gets wiped & sometimes in the column a town/city/region label gets deleted & today the frequency for SBS Brisbane is wiped.

It’s quite annoying to discover this & to frequently retype this data. This has been occurring in recent years. My message is; please take a little care & check before leaving each sheet that you haven’t accidently wiped any data. If you have, please either re type it correctly or please let us know via this thread of your accidental error. I’ve identified 3 deletions in the last week alone. (Norwa label deleted, MARKET deleted on NZ North Is sheet & 93.3 frequency deleted for 4SBS Brisbane). I’ll fix the last two in a minute.

Also accidents can happen & it’s easy for us to fix them as soon as the accident happens so please give us a shout if you make an accidental error.

Thank you.

Station data from FMLIST gets refreshed into the maps used by the web servers once a week at the moment (sometime around or after 00:00 UTC on Tuesdays).

The webservers themselves do cache the data from previous lookups though. Restarting the webserver will wipe the cache and fetch any new data
