Thanks for that. Shepparton 96.9MHz however has a PS of: Hit96.9 rather than Hit_96.9 @webguy Was the RDS PS Hit96.9 or Hit 96.9 for 93.7 Mansfield?
That’s good to know. It would indicate that the PI code for Mansfield 93.7 has indeed changed to 3969.
Maybe due to 96.9 signal not being sufficiently weak enough for tuner to switch to 93.7MHz Mansfield?
There is also the 93.7MHz in the Devils River Eildon ‘Hit’ ‘touristy’ venue (cough outlet) to check out, supposedly with RDS too. Not sure if anyone has heard that one or received RDS from it.
I’m guessing Mansfield Community Radio 99.7 (or relays) still don’t have RDS?
Probably if it doesn’t then probably others like UGFM Marysville have turned off RDS too I’ll grey out the entry in the RDS list & wait for a second monitoring observation from someone. Sometimes RDS can be temporarily off air during monitoring/dx trips, have had this happen to me a couple of times elsewhere. I know I haven’t received RDS from 88.9 UGFM Yea whilst on the Hume Highway/Freeway travelling to/from Melb in the couple of trips I’ve done down there over the past 4 years. Sometimes RDS subcarriers can be set low & difficult to be sure if RDS is really on or not unless close to transmitters or in very good reception areas
UGFM 106.9 Alexandra have a backup transmitter at their studio too & always a chance that might have RDS.
I can’t remember if there was a space or not. Definitely the capital H and I’m fairly certain it was the same on both frequencies.
That’s the one I meant when I said Alexandra. I have been in the area (including driving right past the transmitter site) and heard hit on 93.7, but I’ve also heard hit Triple M on 91.3 which is only at The Paps (Mansfield). Alas, the car I take when visiting that area doesn’t have RDS so I can’t be sure.
I’ve now got an SDR for the laptop so will try to do some investigation when I’m next in the area.
Yes, was running Triple M last time I asked ‘How’s the serenity?’ I wonder why there’s now not an equivalent SFN for 3SR on 91.3, as with 3SUN on 93.7.
The 93.7 SFN is pre 3SSR. Back when Sun FM had studios on Mt Buller, they wanted reception for the whole drive from Yea to Mt Buller. The Shepparton stations are basically not existant in Yea, so I assume SCA have decided to keep 93.7 in Yea so that they’re not cutting services, but don’t see a case to add Triple M.
There may also be technical limitations with the 91.3 frequency. 91.1 from Bendigo gets into Yea enough that there could be interference.
I don’t see the same case for the Devils River repeater (if it’s even on). I’ve found 91.3 to already be adequate in that area, however it’s possible that the engineering for the SFN requires 93.7 Mansfield to run at a lower power.
I’m not sure if any changes required by @melb_mateyy0 re Logo List (the logo is populating with the PI code) or the FMList people, but the PS of 99.1 3VYV (Yarra Valley FM) has now been updated to YVFM with 4 spaces trailing, PS was blank previously.
I have been working with the Yarra Valley FM tech to improve the RDS over the past couple of days. Quite a bit of tinkering & getting acquainted with the RDS Encoder. Finally a great result for listeners. We have tuned off the CT as well.
I would appreciate any in car tuner feedback if the the PS name display is displaying for Yarra Valley FM.
Some testing with a full 8 character PS name might occur later.
That’s a good result, now they just need to reduce their overall MPX level. They never used to overdeviate like this, it’s a recent thing. The stereo pilot tone might be a good indicator of how high it is.
The high noise level looks like static but must be related to the audio output. It’s a strong signal, yet the RDS is buried in the noise. In comparison, images of other stations of similar or lower signal strength.
Thanks very much for this info @melb_mateyy0 . I am wondering if some reset occurred on the processor a couple of days ago given that the PI code defaulted back to 0000. I wasn’t aware of any level changes. I will forward this to the tech to investigate. I was only involved in looking at the RDS settings, which were a bit basic in some areas, such as no programmable group code sequence.
Yes stereo pilot carrier for starters is too high.
I need a remotely accessible SDR in Melbourne to check these things.
Unfortunately the remotely accessible Aus/NZ SDR’s on the SDR Console & Airspy networks for the FM band have dried up over the past 12 months or more.
Yeah, I remember tuning into Sun FM on 93.7 back in the day. I think they could just get away with an SFN on 91.3; 3BO also gets into there fairly well on 93.5.
Another anomaly is Omeo: they have a 2BDR tx (The River/MMM) but no 2AAY repeater (FM 104.9/Star FM/hit).
New modified Territory FM logo added to the Aust RDS List today.
Does anyone have any RDS updates for Darwin?
Other RDS updates as per Worksheet 17 - Historical Updates v2.2.27 15/12/2024.
Thank you to all contributors.
Noted today that 103.1 Power FM Ballarat back to a PI Code of FFFF.
Looks like they left out a space after the M in 'FM".
The other odd thing is I don’t find a More FM in Picton on 93.7 on any list, but rather meant to be on 94.7MHz.
A rushed RDS programming job?
What frequency were you hearing them on @CrazyCat ?
