Sorry for the poor explanation, it seems to be favouring the left channel, and like you say, the processing seems all wrong.
GLFMâs (2GLA) RDS display data should now be viewable on tuners, that up until 10 months ago werenât displaying it, due to a change this year in their PI code. GLFM have made the intelligent PI code selection & change from 002B to 24A8.
Below is a pic on the TEF6686
Reception wasnât strong enough to capture a stable or complete RT message.
Maybe someone else can post their RT messages?
Sadly no RDS changes to report on here on the Mid North Coast.
Still no RDS at Sky Racing HPON Kempsey (101.5).
Finally after several attempts Iâve managed RDS decoding of 2SEA Eden during yesterdayâs brilliant coastal hugging tropo opening.
I can also report that Sky Sports Radio also has RDS down in Eden.
And another Eden RDS capture.
Same PI code as 4TAB Beaudesert?
Yes. IIRC there was a posting in the MS forum some months ago where the 4TAB tech announced the RDS programming of most of the SkySportsRadio FM stations in NSW.
I have now entered the Eden TX in the PI Code Worksheet. Thereâs plenty more TX to added to that particular Worksheet (11) in our RDS list, but Iâve only included those entries where the PI code has been confirmed thus far for individual transmitters.
So it was!
Sky Sports Radio RDS has been switched on today throughout the NSW network where equipment is RDS capable using the same PI as my QLD equiped stations.
Given the predicted tropo for Sunday Dec 10th evening along the NSW south coast & inland to Canberra it was decided to combine a dx & brief sightseeing expedition out to Sydneyâs North Head a little before sunset armed with the TEF6686 & the longer 1.4m telescopic whip antenna.
I had expected stronger & deeper penetrating south coast FM reception at the time. Instead predominantly FM stations from Mudgee down to Canberra out in the west were received. There was a fog over the harbour & the cool damp air just felt like the usual coastal temp inversions we receive on the Sydney coast.
Whilst 93.1 Real FM Mudgee was a surprise strong catch I had to blink a few times when to my amazement RDS & associated data quickly populated the receiver display.
See below.
SRN has often been slow to roll out RDS. I suspect this is their latest RDS addition.
Note the trend for their PI codes to match their studio Post Codes.
More pics & notes to follow.
Hereâs another rare catch & my first with their RDS, also from North Head in the early evening yesterday.
Sky Sports Radio - Bathurst 100.9MHz. Had to do a combination of some aerial gymnastics & moving about to find the spot where this station dominated over both Connect FM & PSFM. Fortunately signal was strong enough to provide RDS.
This is, so far, the only Sky Sports Radio RDS outlet that Iâve noted to date with a populated RT & a PTY of None (only ever previously noted PTY of Sports from our collective logs).
Would have liked to have stayed at this location longer for more listening, but I think the national park closes at 8.30pm summer time & I was being attacked by several squadrons of mosquitos & had to make a hasty retreat.
SRN has often been slow to roll out RDS. I suspect this is their latest RDS addition.
Great catches!
Was there any sign of 2MG on 97.1?
I wonder if the RDS upgrade was also related to the conversion of 2MG to FM, as their website says the FM move is âwell underwayâ.
Was there any sign of 2MG on 97.1?
I forgot to check for that.
That being said, ABC Taree outlets were so strong at that location & time that they just dominated their allotted frequencies. I did tune to 97.1 but all I received was ABCRN Taree. Same with Triple J 96.3 without any sign of Coast FM (96.3) underneath.
I wonder if the RDS upgrade was also related to the conversion of 2MG to FM
Could be.
Iâll keep an eye & ear out on 97.1 in future
Late Note: No ACMA RRF data entry as yet.
Connect FM 100.9 - Bankstown, NSW has now added Song Title & Artist info.
RT+ hasnât happened yet, but I suspect itâs not far away.
With the New Cal reception, Iâm a bit surprised that RDS is possible on two stations that are so close together e.g. Djiido on 103.0 and Hot Tomato and on 96.0 with Zinc. Many other examples.
Further to last post re Connect FM - Bankstown.
Most of the time the RDS RT is outputting these messages every 20 seconds:
Connecting The Community - 100.9 CONNECT FM
Community Radio for Bankstown and Auburn
www.connectfm.au (This message is also output as RT+)
Minority of time, perhaps used to test & implement the RDS RT music details & future RT+ testing the RDS encoder is outputting these messages:
Now Playing: [Artist] - [Title]
Music For The Work Day
Connect FM - Connecting The Community
A bit more monitoring requiredâŚ
During todayâs DX opening to the south I got the following on Salt 106.5. While the audio for Salt was perfect the RDS would keep flashing to 7040??
7040?
That sounds like Ultra 106.5 Hobart coming up underneath it?
I was wondering but it isnât on the RDS spreadsheet.
Ultra 106.5 didnât have RDS two days ago & hasnât had for a while unless something has changed past 48 hours or itâs another unknown RDS station?
The fact that it started with a 7 suggested to me that it was Ultra⌠The general rule of thumb suggests to me the first digit of the PI code matches the first digit of your callsign.
The fact that it started with a 7 suggested to me that it was UltraâŚ
Unless the RDS subcarrier is lower than -70dB itâs not Ultra as Iâm listening to them
now remotely. It hasnât had RDS since 6/2020.
There are also stations in NSW, QLD, VIC & PNG with PI codes commencing with a leading 7. Wish it was Ultra as it would be an easy mystery solve. But itâs not, unless they were temporarily on an other transmitter or encoder setup at the time.
Any other suggestions by others outside our usual geographic sphere could be helpful. Any TCBL candidates? Possibily a mining station somewhere? Iâm perplexed.
