I’ll have to dig out the RDS standards/specifications, but I don’t think the cut in point can be adjusted, I think it’s a standardised set point, if it can be adjusted, I don’t think all RDS encoders probably have this ability?
It shouldn’t be too hard for the ABC to get all Triple J’s in sync for RDS AF, if all transmitter sites are fed off satellite. But I’d say the problem is the capital cities & adjacent area’s are fed differently, with the main metro sites being fed off fibre or microwave, & the adjacent regional service being off satellite, that’s where your delay is happening. They could probably delay the signal on the metro fibre/microwave links, but would the cost far outweigh the result, more than likely yes.
This could be a Sydney issue only though, I’m not sure if the other state capitals are fed off the satellite for Triple J & Classic, using the state feed? Someone in these areas might be able to get 2 radios & tune to the metro service on one & an adjacent regional one on the other & see if there’s a delay?
I was up in Bairnsdale a few weeks ago (I’ve been really busy so haven’t had a chance to post) and the ACE stations have changed their RDS again.

Interesting that they’re feeding useful RDS lines to the FM translator of an AM service, and can do the same to the main TRFM frequency, but are running only a single static line to the translator.
Also, the weather line was specific to the location, i.e. 98.3 had Bairnsdale forecast, 99.5 had a different forecast for the Valley
Looks to be the audio processor used there.
Reminds me of 103.5 2MW Mullumbimby that once had WAVEART for RDS, being the TX used.
Is this a AM transmission been re broadcast on FM?
Sure is. Yes, looks like a DEVA DB6400 is being used.
I’ve noticed this morning that JJJ in the Illawarra has dropped its RDS, probably due to complaints with cars that have AF capability in parts of Sydney where the Illawarra signal comes in stronger than the Sydney signal.
As a result, the ‘Now Playing’ info has returned to JJJ in Sydney.
Hopefully it’s only temporary until they can get it in sync.
88.5 Captains Flat is now relaying off either DAB or the webstream. Same RDS. I wonder if the person(s) responsible for it saw my video.
A lack of RDS punctuation can make for a chuckle.
Didn’t realise streaming Aussie radio was big over there!
A Toto song was being played
“We are the world……”
Has 2OOO-FM 98.5 in Sydney lost its RDS?
I haven’t seen it the last few days.
I’ve just checked & they don’t have it on.
In answer to the question about 2OOO-FM RDS, yes they have, but no they haven’t lost their RDS.
We are doing electrical works at Artarmon, installing new switchboards & moving some community FM services to these new switchboards, as a result we have 2OOO-FM temporarily running on their backup TX, while we move power supplies on their main.
2OOO-FM’s RDS is generated in their main (Nautel) transmitter, so when they’re using their backup the RDS won’t be there, we should have it back to normal by mid week hopefully.
Thanks for that, good to know!
I know this sounds a bit boring, but I think they should standardise their RDS to just Breeze and Rebel… as I’ve seen REBEL937 (also Tenterfield), REBEL106 (Childers), REBEL994 (Gold Coast Hinterland), Breeze92 (Beaudesert) and Breeze97 (Gloucester) which is odd being on 97.7.
They generally do that to differentiate the product between markets I thought? Both Rebels here in SEQ used to just show ‘Rebel’ and at one point had AF between them, but they now have different ads/programming so it wouldn’t work anymore.
@TV.Cynic nice catches again. The 90.1 AF I presume is for Stanthorpe (again has a different name as ‘Breeze90’). That would work quite well actually, as there are higher parts outside of Stanthorpe itself where you get a better signal from Tenterfield than you do from the Mt Marlay translator despite it being much further away.
Absolutely @tamago_otoko , Mt Mackenzie is higher elevation, higher dB, so much better coverage.
Remember when 2TEN only had Mackenzie? Coverage good enough in Stanthorpe for locals and 2TEN to successfully lobby the regulator for a Mt Marlay translator, such is community of interest.
Thankfully, coverage doesn’t work the other way and Mackenzie isn’t hosting translators for the T’ba commercials. There’s scarcely little local to appeal to lclals anyway.
Great for @AJ1 who deserves some more solus territory.
