Public Transport

I tweeted Metro during the week and it replied the closure was due to signalling upgrades. It reconfirmed the works with Herald Sun today.

Correct.

Those busways seem to be going for extensive lengths through suburbs which don’t seem to have any corridors which allow for construction. How are they going to build them? Bulldozing houses for a high speed busway? Bus lanes on existing roads?

Old Cleveland Road still has the median left over from the days of trams. In fact, sections of the median still have tram tracks which no one has bothered to remove. For a good part of the last five years locals and council have been talking about how the road is optimal for dedicated bus lanes.

Could a high speed railway line between Geelong and Melbourne be on the cards?

they need a bloody line to the airport first. it’s so annoying flying into melbourne and getting the skybus and getting suck in traffic. in brisbane and sydney i can train it to the airport and not have to deal with traffic (the only issue with sydney is that i’ve found trains full of commuters in the AM peak)

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews will give a speech to Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry this morning, revealing the long awaited airport rail link will be built in the next decade.

Victorian Transport Minister Jacinta Allan adds that she hopes the line will integrated into the existing V/Line network. Perhaps joining either the Bendigo or Seymour/Shepparton line?

Just like the last government promising to build a line to the airport. I’ll believe it when I’m sitting on the train with my luggage heading there.

For starters, it’s ridiculous that the current metro rail project is going to be finished 2026.

Victorian Transport Minister Jacinta Allan adds that she hopes the line will integrated into the existing V/Line network. Perhaps joining either the Bendigo or Seymour/Shepparton line?

Translation: We hope to do this as cheap as possible.

Would expect it to link off the Albion freight corridor that also carriers the few Albury standard gauge services, suprised it may not be linked into the Metro network (through the eventual Sunshine-Dandenong line)

It amazes me that a city as big as Melbourne doesn’t have a train line to the airport.

Some friends of mine catch an Uber from the airport to a nearby train station whenever they visit Melbourne.

There is a regular bus that goes from the airport to Broadmeadows train station.

But apparently the original airport plans back in the 1960s included provision for a train line. It never happened :persevering_face:

Early last month I posted that Transdev’s $550 million Doncaster Bus Rapid Transit proposal was rejected by the Victorian Government: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/east/transdevs-550m-eastern-freeway-plan-knocked-back-company-says/news-story/f8ffeee69d893737da2f22420590fe96
Now the government has adapted elements of the proposal, such as the busway along the centre median of the Eastern Freeway, which will be included in the North East Link project.

The names of Melbourne Metro tunnel stations were revealed this morning and involves a name swap. The new station in North Melbourne, tentatively named Arden, will now be called North Melbourne, while the current North Melbourne station will be renamed West Melbourne (it is located in the suburb of West Melbourne).
The confirmed names of the other four stations are:
Parkville -> Parkville
CBD North -> State Library
CBD South -> Town Hall
Domain -> Anzac

While I am happy with the Parkville name, the other three stations should have been called something else. If I remembered correctly, the names I entered into a competition were:
CBD North: RMIT
CBD South: St Paul’s Cathedral
Domain: Shrine of Remembrance

Surly they could’ve named the Arden Station something different. This will confuse the hell out of everyone. Other than that I like the rest of the station names.

At least we didn’t get something like Station McStationface :roll_eyes:

A viewing platform in the shape of a Metro Xtropolis train opened in Melbourne’s City Square today, so the public can take a glimpse of work in progress at the new Metro Tunnel Town Hall station.

Melbourne’s NightRider buses will not run on New Years Eve as it’s a ā€˜Sunday’. They only run on Friday and Saturday Night’s.

I think for a event like this they should be running.

Public Transport will be for free from 6pm Sunday Night to 6am Monday Morning.

What an over statement. Metro and Yarra Trams are running all night except for the route 78 and 82.

but don’t these busses travel to areas poorly served by trains and trams?
