The CPTV channel will launch next Friday.
DISCLAIMER: PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd) is a fictional broadcaster and will not broadcast to New Zealand, as it is fictitious and imaginary. Thank you for understanding.
I’m gonna need three TVs that night, one tuned to my network, one to PTV1 and one to PTV2 so I can watch The Simpsons Movie. Can anyone loan some lol?
Why is that? Why not launch it just in time for the second week of the school holidays?
With a Freeview digital television recorder (DTR), you can only record two channels simultaneously while watching a third live. But you can’t record all three channels at once!
@LiamP I’ve moved the launch of the CPTV channel forward to next Friday, i.e. the second week of the school holidays, although I gave my earlier post a bit of a tweak.
I wasn’t going to record all of them. I was going to use three TVs to watch all of them at once.
Thanks for taking my suggestion into account Paddy.
@AK_NEWS @LiamP PTV Network’s family of channels - PTV1, PTV2, PTV3, PTV4, PTV5, PTV6 and CPTV - is free-to-air on Freeview.
You can find us on:
Freeview is available either by UHF aerial (about 86% of New Zealand homes) or by satellite (100% of New Zealand homes).
A Freeview-approved television or set-top box is required to convert the digital signals into pictures and sound. All new TVs have Freeview UHF receivers built-in, or you can buy a separate receiver to connect to your older television. Some TVs have a built-in satellite receiver.
As a consumer you have to pay a one-off purchase of a Freeview TV or box, and an aerial or satellite dish if you don’t have one, but after that it is FREE! There are no long-term contracts or ongoing subscriptions.
Freeview-approved products are available nationwide. They come with an 8-day electronic programme guide (EPG) listing all the available channels; there are approved installers, and technical support is provided.
If you want to watch PTV Network on Freeview just before launch, you may need to retune your TV or set-top-box.
Follow the steps outlined below.
Step 1
Press ‘menu’ on your remote.
Step 2
Select ‘set up’, ‘installation’ or ‘update’. If asked for a password, the default code is ‘0000’ or ‘1234’.
Step 3
Select the ‘full retune’, ‘factory reset’ or ‘default settings’ option. This will clear the existing settings and find the new channel lineup. If prompted, save the channels that are found.
NOTE: To make way for PTV3 on Channel 5, Māori TV has moved to Channel 11 and Te Reo to Channel 12.
All PTV Network channels are broadcast in 1080i HD (High Definition), with selected programmes in both HD and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound (where available).
You’ll require an HD-ready or Smart TV; this means your TV needs to be both HDMI and HDCP capable to receive our channels in HD. An HDMI cable can be purchased from your local electrical store. You’ll also need to have a UHF aerial and live where Freeview’s UHF signal is available.
Freeview’s UHF signal is available to about 86% of New Zealand homes, and Freeview itself does not manage transmission and cannot extend UHF transmission coverage. In the next 12 months, PTV Network will team up with Kordia, JDA and Lotto New Zealand in order to extend UHF coverage to the following regions:
The extension of Freeview’s UHF signal will make PTV Network available to about 95% of the population.
NOTE: Not all programmes on the PTV Network channels are broadcast in HD.
Freeview satellite.
PTV Network’s national output is also available across New Zealand on Freeview’s satellite service. Viewers of Freeview satellite will receive an Auckland feed nationally, i.e. no regional breakouts, and all PTV Network channels are broadcast in SD (Standard Definition).
Live streaming.
All PTV Network channels (except CPTV) are live streamed on PTV On Demand, PTV Network’s streaming and on-demand video platform.
Live streaming means you can view a particular PTV Network channel on the PTV On Demand app or website (ptvondemand.co.nz) at the same time as Freeview - even if you’re out and about. It is also known as ‘broadcast TV’.
When a channel is available to live stream on the PTV On Demand app, a banner will appear at the top of the app homescreen showing which channel is on air and streaming now. Simply select it and the show will play out just like it is on broadcast TV (although live channel streams typically run slightly behind the original broadcast)! When the channel is off air, a live stream will be turned off and become unavailable until it resumes transmission.
To watch live streams on ptvondemand.co.nz, click ‘Live TV & Guide’ in the menu bar at the top of your screen. Then select the channel you wish to watch.
NOTE: Not all programmes on the PTV Network channels are available to be live streamed on PTV On Demand. For instance, programmes like “The Simpsons” have a ‘TV only’ option, meaning we won’t be streaming or making them available on the PTV On Demand app or website (ptvondemand.co.nz). To watch “The Simpsons” on PTV2, you need to switch to broadcast TV.
DISCLAIMER: PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd) is a fictional broadcaster and will not broadcast to New Zealand, as it is fictitious and imaginary. Thank you for understanding.
What’s on channel 6 and 7?
Good question. If TVNZ 1 & 2 are located on Channels 1 & 2, TVNZ DUKE would move to its new home on Channel 6 and a new TVNZ owned channel (name TBC) would be on Channel 7. The one-hour timeshifts of TVNZ 1 & 2 would move to Channels 101 & 102 and a one-hour timeshift of TVNZ DUKE would be on Channel 106, according to @TV4.
DISCLAIMER: This information is fictional. In real life, TVNZ 1+1 is on Channel 6 with TVNZ 2+1 on Channel 7, TVNZ DUKE on Channel 13 and TVNZ DUKE +1 on Channel 18. Thank you for understanding.

PTV1 usually opens transmission at 6am weekdays and 8am weekends, and closes transmission each night, although it does air Brand Developers/TV Shop infomercials for two hours after closedown. These are followed by a test pattern with background music which will be shown on screen until the start of the next day’s transmission.
Infomercials cannot be shown in the early hours of Good Friday, Easter Sunday or Christmas Day. This is due to the Broadcasting Act 1989 which states that no advertising can be shown on New Zealand television on those days. The test pattern will be shown just after closedown (in place of the infomercials).

@AK_NEWS @LiamP As PTV Network launches, viewers of PTV2 will ‘party on’ with “Wayne’s World” and the all-night music video marathon.
Walter Neilands will be at Studio The Venue on Auckland’s Karangahape Road (K’Road) celebrating the launch of PTV Network’s youth-skewed entertainment channel, PTV2. There will be live music provided by Body Ocean, Chores, Weird Together Sound System, Sin, Tim Phin, The Return of House of Downtown and many more.
On PTV1’s “The Opening Show” (from 8-11pm), Jason Reeves and Stacey Morrison will be at Spark Arena with live crosses to Walter at Studio The Venue throughout the evening.
Over on PTV2, viewers will be treated to “Wayne’s World” (at 9.45pm) and a live cross to Studio The Venue for the ‘ribbon cutting ceremony’ (at 11.50pm). Once the ribbon is cut, PTV2 will be on air all night and play a marathon of ‘the greatest music videos ever made’ between midnight and 8am.

@AK_NEWS @LiamP Here’s a sample of what Sunday night on PTV1 looks like.
After all, fictional broadcasters like Central and Plus plan a mass-appeal commercial programme, pitted against PTV Network as my dream network, although it has seven channels (PTV1, PTV2, PTV3, PTV4, PTV5, PTV6 and CPTV). And there are just so many commercial programme types and so many hours in the day and night to slot them.
There are also some risks in having to show your cards so far in advance.
Take PTV1 (click to enlarge).
PTV1’s Sunday night begins with 30 minutes of news, sport and weather at 6pm. The news is read by Tom McRae (from Newshub, in real life), with Jeff McTainsh (from Sky Sport) reading sport and Lucy Brock (Miss World New Zealand 2019) presenting the weather. In real life, Lucy works as a senior creative strategist at Motion Sickness, an award winning creative and production agency.
After the news, an hour of current affairs (60 Minutes) follows at 6.30pm. Because I am a big fan of CBS, I chose 60 Minutes as my preference. As well as showing the best of CBS 60 Minutes (New York) and 60 Minutes from Australia, the hour-long programme features items ‘about, for and by New Zealanders’ with top investigative journalists like Guyon Espiner (from RNZ) and Melanie Reid (from Newsroom). Introduced by Melissa Chan-Green (from Newshub), 60 Minutes aims to provide all New Zealanders with a blend of ‘hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news’ from home and abroad.
In between 60 Minutes and the Sunday night movie, viewers will ‘laugh along’ with an hour of US sitcoms - i.e. a brand new episode of Young Sheldon (at 7.30pm) and a new comedy, B Positive (at 8pm), from the creator of “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory”.
Then, they’ll prepare for the work week properly and indulge in the ‘free-to-air premieres’ with PTV1’s Sunday movie slot (from 8.30pm). Each week the channel screens a pick of the biggest blockbuster movie titles on a Sunday night - many of which are shown on network television for the first time - like Angel Has Fallen, Bombshell and The Good Liar. These films are ‘guaranteed to make your Monday morning that little bit brighter’.
The Sunday night movie is followed by a late news bulletin which provides its viewers with an update on the latest news and sports stories as they develop. (On weekends the late news runs for 10 minutes and is read by the same newsreader for the 6pm news and between-programme newsbreaks that night; like Nightline on weeknights, it is usually shown at around 10.30pm - depending on what precedes it.)
An encore screening of the discussion programme Meet the Press (originally broadcast earlier in the day, i.e. Sundays at 12.30pm) and an episode of NCIS: New Orleans round off Sunday nights on PTV1.
The channel closes transmission with a brief look at tomorrow’s weather and a sneak preview of programmes to come, although it airs infomercials for two hours after closedown each night. All infomercials are provided by TV Shop and within two hours, a test pattern will appear on your screen and will stay there until the start of transmission the next day.
What do you think of my Sunday night schedule (according to the image)? And what’s your Sunday nights going to be?
DISCLAIMER: PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd) is a fictional broadcaster and will not broadcast to New Zealand, as it is fictitious and imaginary. Thank you for understanding.
@AK_NEWS @LiamP As I’ve mentioned here previously, I created PTV Radio as ‘New Zealand’s newest commercial news talk station’ - the station listeners turn to for breaking news, opinions and the latest information on the stories that matter.
I am considering a sister station to PTV Radio but before I tell you what it is, I’ll clear up what it’s not.
It’s not necessarily a 24 hour, all-news radio station similar to that of ABC NewsRadio in Australia and LBC News in the UK. We’re a small country and we simply don’t have enough news to fill an all-news station.
And it’s not a sports radio station either, although, in real life, SENZ (which is owned and operated by Australia’s Sports Entertainment Network or SEN) is set to become ‘New Zealand’s new Home of Sport and Racing’ powered by soon-to-be-announced live sports rights. Before the Covid-19 pandemic that hit New Zealand and the rest of the world last year (2020), we had Radio Sport and TAB Trackside Radio respectively.
Instead of adopting an all-news or sports radio format, I am talking about people who do not listen to today’s hit music, like The Edge and ZM (in real life). I mean, older people (especially the ‘baby boomers’ and retirees) who have a ‘youthful, active approach to life’ and want ‘fantastic music and a feel-good attitude’, just like Magic and Coast (in real life).
Their favourite artists include: ABBA, Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Bill Haley & His Comets, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Dusty Springfield, The Eagles, Elton John, Elvis, The Everly Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones, The Supremes and Tom Jones just to name a few.
The sister station I am creating is called PTV Vintage.
PTV Vintage plays more of ‘the music Kiwis grew up with from the 50s, 60s & 70s’ with less talk - 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Songs that are 40+ years old and were originally released on vinyl. The songs you know, the songs you love, the songs you forgot about and the songs you thought you’d never hear on your radio again.
What’s more, PTV Vintage’s target audience is all people aged 50+. It celebrates the music and culture that shaped this audience’s formative years, and serves as the place for them to enjoy the hits and memories from the good old days.
Your hosts will be Mark Leishman and Geoff Bryan (both from Magic) on breakfast, Peter Mac (from Hokonui) on days, Murray Lindsay (from Magic) and Raylene Ramsay (from Newstalk ZB) on drive, Phil O’Brien (from RNZ) on nights, and Bob Gentil (from Magic), Dave Dunlay (former co-host of The Breeze’s Christchurch breakfast) and Tarsha Tolson (ex-More FM Wellington) on weekends.
DD Deluxe and Hettie LaBombe (from Boom! Boom! Deluxe) will take over PTV Vintage on Friday nights, from 7pm through to midnight. I am going to describe their show as DD & Hettie’s Friday Night Takeover.
From 7-9pm, the hosts will introduce two hours of magazine-style features covering retro style, classic cars, B-movies, pinup girls, vintage fashion and groovy music, along with a selection of ‘very, very cool guests’. The third hour, from 9pm, will be devoted entirely to pinup and cover a range of important topics related to the pinup community, featuring a handful of New Zealand’s finest retro pinups as special guests. The last two hours, from 10pm, will feature a selection of groovy tunes as chosen by listeners.
Here’s a photo of me - the founder and owner of PTV Network as a fictional broadcaster - with Hettie and DD at The Very Vintage Day Out (VVDO) in 2019.
For those of you who haven’t recognised it, Boom! Boom! Deluxe is an Auckland-based band playing Rock & Roll and Rockabilly music - a mix of authentic 50s & 60s classics laced with clever reworkings of modern songs in the Rockabilly style. They perform live at gigs around New Zealand, including The Very Vintage Day Out, Beach Hop, Postman’s Leg Rock & Roll Party, Orewa Rodders Beach Festival and many more. Their album, “TeenageJuvenileDelinquentRocknRollHorrorBeachParty!”, was released in 2019.
On Saturday nights, Peter Mac will host That 70s Hour from 6pm; it’s an hour-long feature devoted to the biggest 70s pop hits and biggest artists from this unforgettable decade. Then, fluff up your poodle skirt and dust off that leather jacket because PTV Vintage is taking you back to the days of doo wop, sock hops and jukebox classics! Oldies But Goodies mean non-stop 50s & 60s hits - back-to-back and commercial free every Saturday night, from 7pm.
On Sunday nights, you’ll be treated to Mark Leishman’s Time Tunnel from 6-7pm. Join Mark Leishman as he takes you back through time to experience a collection of songs, with a different theme each week. Mark will give you not only details about the songs, but their artists and the events happening around the time of their release. After 7pm, The Golden Age of Country brings together the most influential country and western artists from country music’s golden age. Murray Lindsay will host the show every Sunday night; it’s for cowboys and cowgirls who are nostalgic for the good ol’ days of the Nashville Sound.
MON-FRI
WEEKENDS
PTV Network’s News and Current Affairs department, in conjunction with the PTV Radio team, will produce news and sports bulletins for the PTV Vintage network.
On weekdays PTV Vintage’s bulletins will be read live by their own newsreaders. For instance, Geoff Bryan will present these bulletins during breakfast (6-9am), although the news will be delivered every half hour. From 10am onwards, bulletins will be broadcast at the top of each hour with ex-RNZ newsreader Paul Brennan (from NBR) presenting daytime bulletins until 2pm and Raylene Ramsay presenting drivetime bulletins from 3-6pm.
From 6am-6pm on weekends, PTV Vintage’s hourly bulletins will be pre-recorded and read by the same newsreader as PTV Radio’s. The rotating pool of newsreaders for both PTV Radio and PTV Vintage include Sarah Bradley (from RNZ), Grace Cocker (from Newshub Radio), Joe Gilfillan (from Newstalk ZB), Jared McCulloch (from TVNZ but has a background which includes regional television and radio newsrooms around New Zealand), Simon Mercep (ex-RNZ and TVNZ), Juliet Sivertsen (from NZME) and Glen Stuart (newsreader on More FM’s breakfast).
All news and sports bulletins will be followed by a brief, national weather forecast, which will be read out on air by PTV Vintage’s hosts. The weather is supplied by MetService and updated daily.
If there is breaking news anywhere in New Zealand (this includes major traffic accidents, major road closures etc) it will also be announced on air by its hosts.
PTV Vintage will simulcast on both AM and FM in Auckland, Tauranga, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington and Christchurch, and will broadcast solely on FM in most other areas.
PTV Vintage will replace Magic Talk on 31 of its frequencies; Magic Music in Rodney (104.9FM), Auckland (100.6FM), Thames/Paeroa (104.4FM), Taupo (99.2FM) Taranaki (89.2FM), Christchurch (99.3FM) and Ashburton (103.7FM); The Edge in Whangamata (93.1FM); Newstalk ZB in Greymouth (103.5FM); and The Sound in Kurow (105.6FM). Newly engineered frequencies in Kaitaia (90.8FM), Hokitika (103.5FM) and Wanaka (105.8FM) will be established.
Below is a full list of PTV Vintage frequencies (click to enlarge).
PTV Vintage will also be live streamed on its website, ptvvintage.co.nz, and the rova app. Its two dedicated Music+ Stations - the 24 hour extensions of Oldies But Goodies and The Golden Age of Country as heard on PTV Vintage every weekend - will be exclusive to rova.
DISCLAIMER: PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd), which owns PTV Radio and PTV Vintage, is a fictional broadcaster and will not broadcast to New Zealand, as it is fictitious and imaginary. All frequencies are owned by MediaWorks (in real life); the 103.5FM frequency in Greymouth is owned by NZME (in real life); and the 90.8FM (Kaitaia), 103.5FM (Hokitika) and 105.8FM (Wanaka) frequencies do not yet exist. Thank you for understanding.

Later in the evening, more than 600 guests will celebrate the launch of PTV Network at a black-tie dinner and variety show which will take place at Spark Arena on Friday night (commencing at 7.30pm, not 8pm). PTV Network’s opening spectacular will begin with two hours of live entertainment provided by:
The first two hours will be broadcast exclusively live on PTV1. At around 9.30pm, viewers of other PTV Network channels (i.e. PTV2, PTV3, PTV4, PTV5 and PTV6) will join the PTV1 feed for a special, 15 minute simulcast as they cross live to Spark Arena; they will be introduced to “The PTV Network Mascots” (i.e. a small group of ‘brand mascots’ made up of former Miss Pinup New Zealand contestants).
As mentioned before, the simulcast will feature intros by the Mascots (i.e. meet and greets), a behind the scenes look at the making of their music video (i.e. a cover version of Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood” as the official slogan of PTV Network) and a live, on-stage performance with The Sugarshakers (from Brisbane, Australia) singing “Rev It Up!”. It was originally released as a single in 2014.
The Mascots of PTV Network include:
For those of you who haven’t introduced to the latest Mascot of PTV Network, meet Juanita or Jay - aka Miss Sweet Jean. She was crowned Miss Pinup New Zealand earlier this year (2021).
Now, I have 10 Mascots; they will promote a wide range of services within PTV Network (for marketing and promotional purposes only).
At the end of the simulcast, all other channels will opt out of the PTV1 feed for scheduled programming (see below for revised schedules). However, PTV1 viewers will be treated to live performances by Six60, Sir Dave Dobbyn and Tami Neilson from around 9.45pm. The show will be scheduled to finish at around 11pm with a fireworks display from the Sky Tower.
Live crosses to Studio The Venue on Auckland’s Karangahape Road (K’Road) celebrating the launch of PTV Network’s youth-skewed entertainment channel, PTV2, will be featured right throughout PTV1’s broadcast. For fans of dance and electronic music, there will be live entertainment provided by Body Ocean, Chores, Weird Together Sound System, Sin, Tim Phin, The Return of House of Downtown and many more. PTV2 will have a live cross to K’Road at around 11.50pm (straight after the movie “Wayne’s World”) for a 10 minute preview of the channel’s own music shows, followed by the all-night music marathon from midnight.

Here are the schedules for PTV Radio and PTV Vintage. I made these using Microsoft PowerPoint.
Below are the frequencies for the PTV Radio and PTV Vintage networks.
PTV Radio is available in every radio market area in New Zealand via the 102FM network, and is simulcast on 891AM in Wellington. PTV Vintage broadcasts on both AM and FM in Auckland, Tauranga, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington and Christchurch, and is available solely on FM in most areas.

All frequencies shown in the PTV Vintage map, in real life, are owned by MediaWorks and NZME respectively and others, including the 102FM network, do not yet exist. Thank you for understanding.
Although I am producing 7 free-to-air television channels and 2 radio stations which make up PTV Network New Zealand (Patrick Te Pou Enterprises Ltd), I have an announcement.
A new PTV News channel, to be called “PTV News 24”, will broadcast the latest and breaking news around the clock, 24 hours a day.
It will show live news bulletins and current affairs programmes from New Zealand and around the world including Channel 4 News, ITV News, CBS News and an overnight feed of CNN, along with the streaming of raw feeds of breaking news stories and ‘filler’ programmes such as ‘news headlines’.
The channel will not feature rolling news bulletins every hour, on the hour; instead, it will regularly simulcast live news bulletins and current affairs programmes as they are broadcast on PTV1.
Like all other PTV Network channels, PTV News 24 will be free-to-air on Freeview.
