Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh Death (1921-2021)

Chris Bath said last night on the news they’d be airing the funeral.

I reckon most networks will have a host here with a cross to London then just the feed of the funeral. That will be more than enough in terms of the coverage.

During Diana’s funeral service Nine removed their watermark iirc, while the watermark was there before and after the service. Seven had a cluttered screen all through their coverage. It would be nice if all channels could remove the watermarks during Philip’s service. We know what channel we are watching. Of course I know that is unlikely to happen.

ABC coverage of the death of Prince Philip

The ABC’s special Friday night coverage of the death of Prince Philip meant interrupting the scheduled ABC TV broadcast of a repeat of Vera, which is now available to watch on ABC iview and will be rebroadcast on ABC TV this Thursday at 1.30pm. The ABC has received a relatively low 435 complaints about its overall coverage, more than three-quarters of which relate to the interruption of Vera. Other complaints were about other matters, such as the duration of our coverage.

The ABC’s coverage attracted strong audiences across our platforms, including an increase in audience engagement for ABC News articles and social media content. For example, the number of users of the ABC News website and ABC News app were up 24% and 14%, respectively, on average on Friday, while ABC News articles across Friday and the weekend recorded a total of 6.2 million page views.

Daily plays of the ABC News channel livestream on ABC iview were up 5% on Friday, while ABC News videos published to YouTube have recorded more than 1 million views to date.

interesting … I suspect that if it had been handled more subtly (ie with a fade to black and apology for the interruption as would have been done in the past) rather than just crashing in, there would have been fewer complaints on that score …

No watermarks looks clean, as do the simple supers.

Compare it with the statement from Prince Harry

I thought at least one network might do a pre show before the actual funeral, I guess unlikely to start a late movie nor find another program suitable for an hour.

I reckon Seven might end up doing the same.

Wonder how this will go down with the public, considering the weekend’s criticism?

The public will just need to deal with it won’t they?

So ch 5 didn’t have any announcement, they just went straight to a documentary?

I mean, at 11pm I doubt there wouldn’t be many people that would care. During the day though I think there’d be a few complaints.

seemingly. from my observations it seems 5 is not massive on news anyway (which considering they are owned by CBS is not suprising)

Vicome you mean. The future of channel 10 right there lol
