Prime Local News 1989-2001

Wow great post. I lived in Newcastle in the late 90s and remember seeing Brett present there, but years later i havent been able to find anything of his time at Prime. I dont suppose you happen to have a video of this by any chance to would you?

I do, but it’ll probably be a while as I have a huge backlog of tapes to go through and export.

I love how simple the presentation was back then. Simple text and layouts that are (mostly) easy to read.

Too many swirls, swipes and swooshes in news these days.

Wow i actually didn’t even know Prime did a form of late news. Great find

I imagine that’s just the 6pm bulletin… I don’t remember Prime ever having a late night news bulletin.

Prime Canberra did have a late news service when they brought the bulletin back in '93. It only lasted for 12 months, IIRC

Thats heaps good :slightly_smiling_face: Guessing it was never broadcast in other prime regions?

That is correct. Its axing of the late news, along with its 1-hour composite bulletin at 6pm being cut to a half-hour local bulletin, was announced in January 1994.

Prime Canberra did continue airing its own half-hour composite bulletin on weekends until September 1994.

Quite weird seeing Commonwealth Place before they installed all the flags from the opening shot!

Does anyone know the name of the guy who did the “From Prime Television Canberra…” V/O? Doesn’t sound like Matthew O’Sullivan because the voice is much more deeper

It was the same person who did Seven’s V/O’s in the 80’s to mid 90s

Bruce Ferrier I think?
