Pointless

Humphries as Alexander Armstrong (primary host) and Rochford in the role of Richard Osman (the brains behind the desk). Would’ve been nice to have a smart female behind the desk, such as Lily Serna from Numbers. Would’ve been even sweeter to have Rochford reunited with former Ten Breakfast host Paul Henry considering they had such an interesting working relationship in the past.

I’m hoping they didn’t just throw these two together in the hope they’ll manufacture some on screen chemistry. Other than a medical degree, that I’m not sure is even relevant to the role, I’m not sure that Rochford is the best fit.

I would assume Rochford in the main hosting role and Humpfries in the Richard role, but who knows what Ten has planned given they appear to be turning the entire format on its head.

Edit - interesting and funny that there are two different replies! My assumption is based on the fact that Rochford has a lot more experience hosting entertainment shows and is listed first in the press release but I could see it being around the other way as well.

Also confirmed that there will only be three teams which in turn confirms a half hour format.

I agree. Although I would personally prefer Gretel Killeen.

Could be:
6.00 Pointless
6.45 The Project

Then it really would be pointless.

I hope it doesn’t, but if this show fails, wow the headlines are going to write themselves.

That’s what I’d expect as well. A bit of left-field casting all round but hopefully for Ten’s sake it turns out to be a hit.

Three teams instead of four confirms a 30 minute timeslot. Ten has essentially cut the first round from the original so there is only three rounds instead of four.

Odd that Mark Humphries appeared on ABC Radio Sydney Breakfast this morning in a long interview with Buck and Harmer and mentioned nothing about his new role. They did say the interview was booked prior to the announcement he was leaving The Feed but you would’ve thought Ten would clear him to talk about the new role the day he started taping episodes.

Yes you would but that flies in the face of Ten’s super successful strategy of doing zero publicity for any of their shows.

Disappointing a woman wasn’t approached for the top job. Is there audience testing that has been showing viewers won’t watch quizmistresses as opposed to masters? 2018

Not at all. It has already been reported that Chris Bath was approached to do it but the ABC wouldn’t let her do it because she is under contract to them.

And how many men did they approach do you know?

For gods sake there still complaints…move on people! Who cares who hosts the show!

I haven’t seen much complaints, mainly constructive criticism.

…Of why a woman wasn’t chosen…seriously :disappointed_relieved:

You clearly live in a world where men and women are equal so I envy and admire you. How is la la land Bob?

We want the best person for the job not just picking a woman to provide gender balance in quiz show hosts.

Apart from a couple of names mentioned (Chris Bath, Grant Denyer) do we even know how many other possibilities were discussed? Do we know how many men or women were discussed? There could have been another dozen women talked about or even talked to about the role, we simply don’t know and quite likely won’t ever know. Yes, it’s 2018 and yes we know that women can host shows and they can do it quite well but that doesn’t mean they have to.

Why are we harping on about this? The hosts have been decided, case closed. I’m curious how they will squeeze all this into 30 mins even after taking out the first round (any fun banter?)
