Plate Of Origin

Out of interest is this show considered to be crap because it’s executed poorly or is it because it’s on Seven? For example would this show be better received on Nine/10 instead of Seven?

I think it’s really the execution of the format is botched.

The article was written by two lecturers from Australian National University in Canberra, Blair Williams and Kim Huynh.

It turns out Manu lit the flame and said “let the flames begin” at the start of tonight’s grand final. Team China also reappeared after missing the filming of the semi final.

You would say that. Bagging Seven is you’re schtick. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

There’s nothing wrong with the way it is executed. However, the whole show is pretty much a streamlined MKR. The problem is that the audience is now over MKR.

OPA! TEAM GREECE WIN PLATE OF ORIGIN

On tonight’s Grand Final, cousins Dezi, 41 and Penny, 33 from Team Greece were crowned Plate of Origin champions winning $100,000 with a total judges’ score of 76/90 after an epic three-course meal showdown with Team Vietnam’s Thanh, 31 and Duncan, 30.

Dezi said: “We have represented the Australian Greek community and now we’ve just won Plate of Origin! It is mind-blowing. I’m so grateful, this is beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of.” When asked by Matt if Greek cuisine was the best in the world Penny added: “Of course it is!”

With four teams starting the Grand Final cook, Team Greece and Team Vietnam made the final two after Vietnam’s Combination Broken Rice dish wowed the judges securing an instant spot. Team Cameroon were eliminated after their traditional stew included overcooked prawns, meaning European culinary superpowers Italy and Greece faced a fierce dessert showdown. Greece’s Ekmek just topped Italy’s Tiramsu resulting in a monumental three-course menu battle between Greece and Vietnam for the Grand Final title.

Team Greece secured an early lead with their entrée featuring perfectly cooked prawns, while Team Vietnam’s Rice Paper Rolls unravelled with undercooked Morton Bay Bug. Team Vietnam evened the score with a perfect main dish of Pork Belly with Bitter Melon Soup scoring 30/30 while Team Greece lost some points in the main by not resting their lamb after a stressful cook. Team Vietnam had to remake their pastry to avert dessert disaster, but the unbalanced and bitter dish saw Team Greece’s Galaktoboureko secure sweet victory.

Team Vietnam were gracious in defeat with Duncan saying: “I just feel so proud to be able to represent the Vietnamese and the Aussie community.” Thanh added: “Our experience on Plate of Origin has been extraordinary, it reminded us that food is a universal language.”

The last picture kinda epitomizes how lackluster this whole show has been, so underwhelming.

This won’t be back.

Not surprisingly, Dezi and Penny’s (Dezi Madafferi and Penny Kerasiotis) win features prominently on the websites of Greek-language paper The Greek Herald this morning.

It was a tight finale. Team Vietnam’s main got a perfect score, but its weakness in desserts was the difference in the end.

Agree

I prefer Masterchef to the traditional MKR. MKR was a good show before, but the unnecessary drama that was put in was annoying and detracted many viewers including myself.

This year’s version of MKR - I would like that. I certainly wouldn’t want the dramatised MKR to come back - it’s already done for.

Dezi and Penny’s victory made the front page of Neos Kosmos today.

The headline in the original Greek-language report reads “Greek cuisine is the best in the world”.

You are right.
I remember last year when 10 let the judges go on MC, there was all this chatter about how popular they were in various markets around the world and that global deals would beckon.
I’m really perplexed how we went from that to them ending up in a second rate, poorly produced Seven Studios cooking show 12 months later.

This should spell the end of the old Masterchef trio.

As for Seven studios. I don’t know what’s wrong with them these days producing second-rate rubbish shows when they used to be king of producing high quality dramas back in the day.

Dezi and Penny were just interviewed on a morning television show in Greece via Skype. They were on a show called “Saturday Sunday (Weekend) with Manesi” on Alpha channel, to talk about their win on Plate of Origin and how they gained their cooking skills.

Plate of Origin appears to have been a very expensive failure according to the Daily Mail

If they are contracted to Seven for three years, then I’m sure they’ll pop up on more cooking reality and lifestyle shows.

Better off appearing on Better Homes and Gardens and maybe some other travel/lifestyle shows like JBar mentioned. Plate of Origin can leave the screens for good.

Sunrise? TMS? TDE? Oh… Wait

Do Seven really want to upset viewers by dumping “Fast” Ed Halmagyi and/or Karen Martini though? People were probably fairly unhappy when Rob Palmer and Jason Hodges were axed!

Why do they have to replace anyone? They can do additional “special” segments.
