Unlike previous Olympics, NBC is airing live coverage and a whiparound show called Gold Zone similar to NFL RedZone
Long overdue, and live across the US too rather than a further three hours delayed as previously. Hopefully the Americans have shown they’re as capable as the rest of the world of watching the games when they actually fall, rather than when NBC chooses to air them.
A follow up article on the production of NBC’s coverage
Anyone know how other countries are covering Australia’s gold rush overnight, particularly France and Great Britain, but also America? We also stole gold from them in at least two (skateboarding with top Americans despite Palmer favoured and GB in the velodrome - the latter the most impressive and shock arguably). Let alone our nation’s record now.
But in seriousness - the idea of a “gold rush” or medal run is very much contained to the country itself, most other countries aren’t keeping track of who wins what in what time frame. New Zealand does the same thing (3 medals in an hour or whatever) but it’s very isolated in the country itself.
Obviously, there’s comparisons via a medal table but that’s different.
NBC was interested in the AUS v USA contest in swimming. They have reports on their website for most gold medal wins but probably aren’t interested much unless an American is 2nd or 3rd in the same event or was favourite to win. Anyway we don’t need validation or acknowledgment from other countries. I reckon France would be disappointed not to be 3rd atm.
That’s one reason I wondered, as the skate park with Palmer had a few Americans, one or two fancies to win, with A-listers in Tony Hawk, Snoop Dog, etc there. And the Aussie went back to back, with the aforementioned involved in congratulating. I’m sure NBC morning would’ve been covering/showing some of that and related media.
The open water swim has started, let’s see how many swimmers get E-coli.
If America had a chance, they would’ve been covering it anyway.
Helps that we’re the US’ biggest threat to medals in the pool
I wasn’t even aware of it until reading it here . The focus at the cycling was on the silver being Britains’ 1000th Olympic medal, not who beat them to gold.
Poor Brits
Handled as it should have been. No need for any more to be said I reckon.
Ridiculous to think this is the first game outside the Americas NBC have actually covered live and clear just like the rest of the world viewers in the States will watch finals live whatever time of day they fall
Took 32 years to figure out how to do a live Olympics
