Why a Network 10 Buyout is Logically Linked to These Streamers
Amazon Prime VideoâŚSecuring premium sports bypasses anti-siphoning rules. Bidding on NRL, holds ICC Cricket.
DAZNâŚScaling up the newly acquired Foxtel/Kayo asset. Owns Foxtel/Kayo, underwrote NRL.
Apple TV+ / NetflixâŚSecuring content to offset subscriber churn. Heavily invested in major global sporting franchises.
I donât think thatâs logical.
Amazon, Apple and Netflix have no plans to buy linear tv networks. And they wonât start that practice in Australia
Sky NZ could buy them
NBCUniversal and Disney are the only two major streamers that seem to want to be in both pies.
With Skyâs purchase of ITV is probably the one with the most obvious interest in directly investing in expanding broadcast operations, and while it might make sense as a strategy for expanding Peacock to another market, the current restructuring Comcast is doing as a whole makes them seem unlikely.
Disney with ESPN Aus might want to take that next step up with the idea of trying to get a foot in for more sports, but they are already doing well as is, and I donât think they need that cost/risk, and would be a weird purchase just for that.
I doubt it.
The best case would be Foxtel owning it, but would DAZN want to do that? Probably not.
DAZN might be interested in it if it helps Foxtel get complete sports rights. Foxtel already owned a slice of 10 pre-Paramount and originally wanted the whole thing with Discovery.
But Netflix, Amazon and Apple are nonsensical suggestions.

At Paramount Australia, women arenât just part of the story we tell on screen, they are part of the story of our business. From the talent leading our biggest shows, to the women leading our business, leadership runs through everything we do.
We are proud to stand behind this yearâs B&T Women in Media Awards theme, Honouring Leadership, celebrating the women driving Australiaâs media industry forward.
Leadership comes in many forms. Itâs telling the important stories that need to be told. Itâs showing up as our truest selves with a bit of flair, warmth and authority. Itâs being the expert in the room. Itâs bringing joy and curiosity into homes across the country every night, and advancing the business that makes that possible.
Women have a pivotal place in our business, content and audience makeup. As a core part of our audience across all ages, the wonderfully diverse ways women engage with our programming continue to inspire us daily.
Hereâs a closer look at how women actively shape and influence our content while driving the conversation as passionate consumers.
Women make up an important part of 10âs audience.
- 10 reaches over 6.7 million women in an average month (thatâs 58.3% of the population!).
- Network 10 (10 + 10 Drama + 10 Comedy + Nickelodeon) is the richest free-to-air network in women, 58% of its prime-time audience are women.
Women are important consumers.
- 54% of 10âs audience are female grocery shoppers.
- 63% of women who earn over $100,000, watch 10.
- 94% of women who watch 10, are the major purchase influencer for home categories.
Women watch more TV.
- The average female viewer spends 3 hours and 2 minutes watching TV per day, 19 minutes more than men.
- The average female viewer spends 1 hours and 27 minutes watching 10 per day, 18 minutes more than men.
What women want to watch.
- Womenâs favourite shows on 10 include: Have You Been Paying Attention?, MasterChef Australia, Australian Survivor, Gogglebox Australia, The Traitors, Taskmaster, and The Bold & The Beautiful.
Womenâs sport has never been more successful.
- The AFC Womenâs Asian Cup 2026⢠tournament reached 6.4 million national Total TV viewers.
- The Matildas V Japan Final the 10âs biggest ever football match reaching over 3.2 million national Total TV viewers.
- The Matildas V China PR match was #1 in its timeslot and reached 2.2 million national Total TV viewers.
- The Ninja A-League Women 2025-26 Grand Final was #1 in its timeslot.
Representation is important.
- This yearâs Paramount+ Australia dramas, Two Years Later, NCIS: Sydney, Dalliance and Who The Hell Is Hamish?, all feature strong female leads and supporting casts.
- We celebrate our talented female hosts including Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, Gretel Killeen, Mel Tracina, Rebecca Gibney, Melanie Bracewell, and Tara Rushton.
- 100% of 10 News First anchors are female, including Sandra Sully, Georgie Tunny, Jennifer Keyte, Kate Freebairn, Natalie Forrest, Narelda Jacobs, and Sharyn Ghidella.
- 10 News also has strong female leads in Network Entertainment Editor Angela Bishop, Network Political Editor Ashley Raper and 10âs Late News anchor Ursula Heger.
Network 10âs Commitment.
- Over the last few years, Network 10 has made significant progress in reducing the gender pay gap, which has decreased from 13.1% in 2021-2022 to 7.6% in 2024-2025. In comparison, industry competitors have a gender pay gap of 11.7%.
Gender Representation by Level (as at February 2025):
- Senior Leadership Team (SLT): 36% women (up from 25% in the WGEA Report 2023-2024).
- Manager Level: 55% women (up from 54% in the WGEA Report 2023-2024).
- Non-management Roles: 49% women (up from 47% in the WGEA Report 2023-2024).
- This contributes directly to the companyâs median base salary gender pay gap, which is currently 3.2%, reflecting an improvement in previous years (6.5% in the WGEA Report 2023-2024). Industry competitors have a median base salary gender pay gap of 11.2%.
At Paramount Australia, this is who we are. Women leading on our screens, leading our teams, and leading the conversations that matter. Weâre proud to celebrate it today, and every day.
Iâm pretty sure Iâve seen guys present the regional updates still branded as 10 News First⌠![]()
Did they forget Daniel Doody, Josh Holt and Hugh Riminton?
Erm, they donât qualify for Women in Media Awards.
wow i had no idea they were woman! thanks!!!
They can these days.
I get the joke since they are guys that present Ten news bulletins. Matches what @foxyrover said earlier. So they are technically out of date.
that that part of the deal is âa real positive for Hollywood and the wider industry at what is a difficult time for the production sectorâŚ.â
Why is it so difficult? I thought streaming was the way forward, there is so much, most of the output and chatter (at least in western nations) appears to be streaming focused so why has that expansion, somewhat at the expense of traditional network investment, making it so difficult now? Wait until the streamers start having to be accountable and strip out unprofitable operations like the networks have been doing over the past several decades.
To me it sounds like they want both sides of the apple, itâs not happening, you canât have ultimate sustainability when one side is being white anted.
Itâs the way forward because thatâs the way the world has technologically moved, and content arms need to follow that.
Having said that, you are always going to have some pain, especially when you try to apply old-school linear/studio thinking to a new model and realise it doesnât work or isnât as profitable .
My reply is in regard to the quote from the article which we often hear from industry/production people. It is only going to get worse for them. There is no increase to be had. Streaming wonât be a boon in the long-term for production if the profit margins arenât there like they were for television in the 70s and 80s.
