Paramount Australia & New Zealand

Max is coming to Australia and the UK In 2025 so Foxtel will lose WBD content

I also think a combined ParaWBD would sell 10

Para/WBD Would sell 10 I think
10Play will live alone

There is no such thing as WB+

Yes I’m aware. It was a hypothetical.

Something intresting I thought about the merger:

Nine and WBD currently both own a 50% stake in 9Rush. If the WBD + Paramount deal goes ahead, the combined company would own 50% of 9Rush, but would also own 10’s stations. I’m guessing their stake of 9Rush would need to be sold back to Nine?

It’s interesting. 9Rush content could end up on 10 Bold

I have a theory that a combined WBD/Paramount may sell 10 to pursue a takeover of Nine Entertainment for various reasons such as streaming, sports rights, and news partnerships. A combined Stan/Max would offer a global platform for Australian-produced content.

A combined WBD/Para would focus almost all their efforts on launching Max to market in AU.

Can’t see them interested in linear TV assets in smaller markets like AU

Why would they bother with another rebranding of P+? Paramount is at least a recognisable brand here. Max means nothing to the average Aussie.

Also, they couldn’t really launch Max until the Foxtel contract is up. What would be the point? :man_shrugging:

Surely they’d be better off just continuing to grow P+.

Paramount+ might have name recognition, but it’s easily the buggiest, worst-designed of the streamers.

It needs a massive overhaul to make it user friendly, or they might just find it easier to start with a fresh product.

If anything, probably means an old music channel on Foxtel.

It will be a global strategy. The two brands will be combined as Max and content will migrate over.

Max means nothing to people in USA, LATAM, EMEA, APAC etc - but it launched/lauching there.

P+ would probs just continue in Oz market until Max is ready to launch 2025. It’s not far away. Max still is a while away from the UK market too.

Europe launches Q2 next year

Max is a terrible brand, I can see them changing it again.

Max has some of the highest trust and satisfaction levels of any streaming brand.

I can tell you, it won’t be changing

Name recognition would be shit though and usage lags way behind D+ and Netflix.

Oh sure

Disney is a 100 year old brand and Netflix is a streets ahead of anyone else dominant player with a 16 year old brand legacy.

Max is barely 1 year old.

Merging with Paramount I think would make it number 2 behind Netflix in US subs

Disney+ has a lot more subs than max in the US but they have very few breakout hit shows.

And almost no shows with strong brand attribution to d+

Max shows have much higher demand (thanks to HBO content ) and significantly higher recall

Most people struggle to name D+ shows

Making more $$ then. I feel like they’ll rebrand it if they merge. I wouldn’t be surpirsed if the WB name is strengthened.
