I donât see an issue with giving staff the flexibility to swap January 26th if they genuinely would prefer it.
The way that 10 has gone about it though with those internal memos and the language used does lead me to believe that itâs going to be an expectation that staff work on the 26th whether they like it or not (and that choosing to take the 26th would be a career limiting move). That to me is not acceptable as it is trying to impose a certain political opinion on staff in an environment that should not be politicised.
This was the issue when I originally made my comment yesterday. It sounded like staff were being forced to work the day.
But given that they have the choice and can use that day off whenever else, I donât see an issue.
Yes and to be fair, they will need more news staff coming in on that day because they will want to cover all the joyous celebrations on Sydney Harbour
And all the protests and people who are speaking out about changing the date which has been the increasing movement in the past few years.
Oh yeah, Ten will be praying there is a big protest for them to cover so they can lead with it.
A soccer style riot would be perfect.
Yeah well if this leaked email and decision to not recognise Australia Day as a holiday internally is meant to be the reason why the network is failing ratings wise ever since around October this year then Iâll eat my hat.
Sorry but I have never seen you post anywhere on this forum.
Who are you? Do you have an axe to grid with 10 yourself? You seem to be on the outrage train since yesterday about this against 10. I canât read any of your posts objectively in the situation⌠just seems and comes across like sour grapes.
Who cares what they do with their staff in giving them an option.
I read an article that Nine staff had the opportunity to donate their Christmas Hampers to those affected by the floods this year. Should we be outraged at that as well because employees had an option?
Well letâs see if Ten further positioning itself as a woke, activist station will back fire
Time will tell
Bit of a cheap shot! Do you have a âbeefâ with 10 or you donât think anyone should be offended by Australia Day being held on the 26th January? As someone from the UK area many years ago and an Aussie Citizen for many years I believe we could find a less sensitive date. (Sorry mods a wee bit off topic).
Itâs interesting you have that opinion because english history ainât too flash either, is it?
However I am glad youâve seen the light and come to a better place
The point is that Ten wonât do itself any good pandering to the woke minority. It needs to play to a larger audience in 2023 if it wants to survive
TEN staff shouldnât be getting any public holiday, Australia Day or otherwise unless their ratings and schedule improves: wokery and PC isnât going to help.
In underperforming businesses a complete staff cleanup is often what is needed. I am sure there are some good people at TEN now but they are not helping the business or themselves and maybe a change of employer would also do them good.
âyour people are not your biggest asset - the Right people are your biggest assetâ
No public holidays for staff. Sure fire way to boost morale.
Okay, thatâs enough internet for you.
Putting aside the fact that this is a beyond ludicrous take, pretty sure itâs also illegal.
10/Paramount was mentioned tonight as part of a general report by ABC reporter Carly Williams, on an increasing number of businesses who have given staff the option of working on January 26 if they do not feel comfortable celebrating Australia Day.
I think the move from Ten is a good one. I honestly believe that eventually Australia Day as we know it will change. Itâs not a celebration for many Australians. The date is only one area that I can see changing. It wonât happen for a while but it will happen. I will be working on the 26th January and the day I take will be a few weeks later on my birthday. However it is difficult to understand how first nations people feel as a lot of us have not lived through it. Neither have I but I can see the hurt that a lot of people have.
I believe it will be similar to how Australians in the 80s and 90s felt about same sex marriage and we had a successful vote on it just recently.
Merry Christmas.
I feel like in 2023 or 2024, we should have a vote on whether to change Australia Day or not like same sex marriage. As I have said, I am supportive of 10âs move and its not like they are forcing people to work on Australia Day, just giving them an option to work or not and recommending that they come.
I guessed we missed that memo too. All the â10â threads on MS are still labeled âTenâ.
