This looks atrocious. Perfect thing for 10 to commission.

Ummmmm. No. This sounds absolutely bonkers

Where’s Lexington to defend this tripe? :woman_facepalming::rofl:

I fucking hate reality television. It’s trash and has sucked budgets away from kids TV and drama production.

But it rates, so some sad sacks watch it. And watch a lot of it.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not a fan of this either (or to be honest, any of the Bachelor franchise) but it could be something 10 can look into if they want to rejuvenate the show, which rated sub-par this year (even taking into account demos and online).

If not, there’s always The Proposal which is surely available after it (rightly so) flopped on 7.

Martin White Appointed Head Of Broadcast News And Rashell Habib Appointed Head Of Digital News And Strategy.

10 ViacomCBS today announced the appointment of Martin White as Head of Broadcast News and Rashell Habib as Head of Digital News and Strategy, effective immediately.

Martin and Rashell, in the newly created roles, will be responsible for leading the successful 10 News First team into the future, while managing the broadcast and digital content strategies for news.

Martin and Rashell will report directly to Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President of ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand, Beverley McGarvey.

Martin was previously Executive Producer of 10 News First Sydney, a role he has held since 2019. Prior to returning to 10 ViacomCBS, Martin was a senior figure at both Seven News and Nine News and held various senior roles in the 10 News First Melbourne newsroom.

Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President, 10 ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand, Beverley McGarvey, said: “Martin has made an important and valuable contribution to our 10 News First bulletin over the past two years.

“Martin’s experience and comprehensive skills across scripting, editing, content creation and media strategy in news and sport is really impressive. He is also a very well-respected leader and mentor. His appointment ensures that we will continue to deliver compelling news to our viewers seven days a week.”

Martin said: “I am thrilled to continue my journey at Network 10. It’s felt like coming home since returning here two years ago. I relish the opportunity to guide our broadcast news product with an innovative approach during a challenging and exciting time for our industry.”

With over 15 years’ experience Rashell has held several senior positions at 10 ViacomCBS, most recently Social and Digital Editor, a role she has held since June 2020. She joined 10 ViacomCBS in May 2018 and has also held senior positions at News Corp for over 10 years, including the first social media editor for NewsLocal and leading social media for news.com.au.

Rashell will bring her extensive proficiency in social media and a proven track record in developing and implementing high level content campaigns and strategies, as well as creating unique partnership opportunities, to this newly created role.

Beverley said: “Rashell’s extensive and specialist strategic social media knowledge, complemented by her news editorial experience and passion, highlights how we are shaping the future of news across all our platforms.”

Rashell said: “With the consumption of news ever evolving and the 10 News First teams consummate masters of storytelling, I am excited to help get more and more 10 News First stories to as many Australians as possible.”

Beverley added: “We are thrilled that Martin and Rashell will lead the 10 News First team. The future of news is looking bright.”

So two new roles replacing one in news but no further investment in the division announced. Unless these people are charged with a new strategy it’s going to be more of the same. Hopefully they ramp up content on both the broadcast and digital sides.

Bev had a few too many coffees this morning I reckon.

Can’t see either role resulting in anything tangible given they don’t really care about investing in news.

If they’re giving digital news it’s own role, then god I hope they’ll be launching a proper news website (and not the crap that was 10 Daily).

And hopefully this also hints that they will return some resources to news, although I’m doubtful we’ll get dedicated local bulletins back.

Let’s hope so. If they have one person devoted to broadcast news surely not just for one bulletin a day. There’s so much more they could be doing. Even with their limited resources.

Rashell was previously ‘Social and Digital Editor’, so not much of a change to become the Head of that department considering she was reporting to Ross Dagan previously anyway.

They could easily launch a super budget local version based off the CBS News website with video first content from their 10 News First broadcasts, Studio 10 and The Project (who strangely write original pieces that get buried on 10play) while using stories and resources of AAP and the like and build from that. There’s obviously a bit more to it than that, but it would definitely be a start for them.

If Ticker News, 6 News, SBS News and the like can all run digital websites and produce content then 10 should really try to be monetising their content more with their own platform.

I don’t think dedicated local bulletins are the way of the future.

You need a big budget, live across all markets and timezones national bulletin with high profile anchors - with local windows.

TV Blackbox reporting on their podcast this morning that the appointment of Martin White didn’t go well within the network with staff.

“‘Many people were left scratching their heads over the appointment; when more qualified people were within the network”.

During an address to staff on the appointment, his response to what his vision for 10 News First was “we need to do better” - which was seen as a slap in the face to the staff working their butts off to produce the bulletins.

Rob also said (I think sarcastically) that Ross Dagan “jetted off to CBS to cut millions from the CBS News budget”.

He also mentioned that he has heard of many changes for 10 next year including some changes to shows currently seen on 10, with “casting and name changes”. Very vague there.

I don’t know much about him at all but he is right. They need to do better. Their competition pumps out 2 local bulletins 5 days a week with an hour apart. Breakfast shows 7 days a week. Current affairs programs and investigative reports. All 10 do is one hour a day of news. It’s pretty black and white to me. They’re behind. By a long shot.

And what they’re passing off as local is barely that. They seem to not know how to staff each day to cover as much as news as possible. It’s a disaster. Maybe this bloke isn’t liked but he might bring a new perspective to things.

Yeah I can see both sides, everyone can always do better but when you’re already stretched and genuinely feel like you’re doing your best to then hear that wouldn’t go down well and would be bad for overall staff morale.

Even Rob acknowledged that the team there have to work harder than any other news organisation with such low staffing numbers, especially now with the additional 30 mins of news Sun-Fri and producing the other state bulletins from Bris, Adl & Per respectively.

It’s all well and good to see they need to do more, which they absolutely could & should but that means investment from the network for more staff but I’m doubtful that will happen anytime soon.
