I wonder if I’ll be able to migrate my current CBS all access subscription over Paramount +. I have received an email from CBS about Paramount + but no details on if my subscription will be moved over automatically
No, MGM are still around, just that they own Epix and they signed a deal for Paramount to get access to said content.
Wonder if we might see a CBSN Australia channel out of this eventually…
10 would have to reinvest in news before that could happen, I think.
Not necessarily.
Paramount plus should launch in Australia at the same time as the US. It should not take months to figure out rights. If I remember correctly Disney plus launched at the same time world wide if not it was within weeks of it launching in the US. They have set the precident.
Paramount Plus is just a rebranded CBS All Access in the US, so I’d say everything will remain the same except for the name and additional content coming to the service.
Really? I gotta say a lot of this content looks like a dud
Have to agree… can’t see this working here.
I was referring to the how the content gets to consumers, not the content itself. ViacomCBS doesn’t need a Stan or a Foxtel anymore. Heck, they don’t really need a Ten anymore. If all the hot stuff programming wise is on Paramount+, the consumer just goes there, To reach that consumer, ViacomCBS goes directly there - it doesn’t need a third party.
Of course - that’s the same for any programming distributor. I suspect some ultimately will find it’s easier to still partner with a Stan/Foxtel than tailor a streaming service to every region around the world and the publicity and other administration roles that come with it.
It’s a fair point, and I totally get that. But judging by the language and the self-confidence they were oozing yesterday, it sounds like they want to control as much of the landscape as they can, and this is the way they’re going to do it. I can see it happening from one central point - might be as simple as a check a box - make show A available in territory B but not in territory C but only after D amount of days, and so on. Plus as COVID has shown, you can get rid of a lot of the back office stuff and do it remotely.
There still might be some content that goes on Stan and Foxtel, and other places, but it won’t be in an exclusive basis and it might be after a very long wait. But again, judging by what was said, this may not happen.
It’s a CBS All Access reboot. With a thousand reboots of shows. That’ll wear thin quick.
I don’t think P+ has quite the broad suite of beloved shows/brands/universes to make a real difference (yet) outside the States.
True, but people have been gravitating to the familiar. Which, I do admit, it’s a major issue - raises the issue of lack of originality. Disney is a major guilty party in this, and they’ve followed their lead.
People know the Paramount name and brand. They know that it’ll take a while for acceptance to settle in, I reckon they are going long-term but let’s wait and see.
ViacomCBS chair Shari Redstone invoked her father, media mogul Sumner Redstone, while introducing the company’s new Paramount Plus streaming service yesterday. “This is not your father’s ViacomCBS and it’s not my father’s either,” she said.
I don’t think they were dealing a behemoth like Disney.
Mardi Gras theme - Twitter, Linked In etc
Good to see, and enjoyed listening to the 10 News First Person podcast with Narelda and Kate too coinciding with Mardi Gras this weekend.
Would look better if the 10 logo was white though, might look more effective against all the colours.
Didn’t Nine re-sign with them a year two two back which included an exclusive vod deal for Stan?
So either that’ll expire by the time Paramount+ launches or they’ll just have to wait or said Epix content?
